Drupal Table at Flourish Conference April 4th and 5th?

The Flourish conference is next weekend (April 4th and 5th), and it seems like a logical place to do some Drupal marketing.

It looks like we'd still be able to get a table.

Are there other folks planning on attending that would be up for setting up a marketing table?

There's also a Web Framework throwdown, although I see someone beat to that post...

From their website:

The goal of the Flourish Conference is to promote the use and adoption of Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) by demonstrating the practical applications of FLOSS in the business and academic world. While everyone is familiar with businesses that focus on creating non-free proprietary software, the same cannot be said for those who specialize in developing and supporting FLOSS software, and an Open Culture. By attending Flourish, you will get an opportunity to see how using, creating, and supporting FLOSS software can enhance your career, your business, and academic aspirations. Come and Flourish!

Flourish 2008 will feature influential and technical speakers, social events, an exhibition area, a development competition and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and socialize with the Chicago open source community as well as people from other areas of the country. This year we are expecting about 400 attendees. We are hoping that you can be one of them.

We hope to see you there at the Flourish 2008 Conference on April 4th and 5th at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Hi all,

So you can find most of this on the Flourish website at flourishconf.com but here is some Drupal-centric (and Chicago/midwest-centric stuff)...

  • If there are people willing to staff a Drupal table at the expo, please contact me. We're on the organizing committee and I can talk to the leaders about getting us on the list, depending on availability.

  • CTC is sponsoring and organizing the "Code for a Cause Hack-a-thon" during the whole event, where we will have teams of people building simple sites and/or applications for use by nonprofit organizations using all open source tools. Two of our projects will use Drupal as a base.

  • [shameless self-promotion] I'm giving a talk on the use of FLOSS by the NPO/NGO sector so you should totally come check it out and get inspired to build cool tools for community groups :)

I will be there, but only on Saturday. I'm game for flagging for Drupal, but will also be flagging for my company, of course. :-)

I just registered for the event and will be there Saturday. I am more than will to promote Chicago Drupal.

Let me know if you need any help.

table details

JimShady - Thu, 2008-03-27 20:05

I spoke with the event organizer this afternoon about a table. Here are the options:

  • We can get a table - for free - as a user group (for instance Chicago DMUG) or a collection of user groups (Chicago + Central Illinois + Wisconsin), but only if we're hyping Drupal as a project. So Crell can't hype Palantir, I can't hype CTC, freelancers can't hype themselves, etc. :)

  • Anyone presenting anything other than a nonprofit or user group has to pay $250/table for the expo.

The question is if we have people willing to cover shifts at the table answering questions and demo'ing Drupal to expo attendees. We're all pretty booked up with the hack-a-thon but we could spare someone for a few hours on one of the days.

Any ideas for materials, etc. to have avail. @ Flourish table please note them here on g.d.o.

Also we need volunteers to sit the table Saturday (9AM - 5PM), please note your availability to volunteer (Fri. or Sat and 00:00 - 00:00).

Thinking of Attending

I'm pretty busy right now, but I'd love to attend this event and pimp Drupal or help with a Drupal-related project at the Hack-A-Thon.

Due to attending the Friday UIUC event, I'd only be present on Saturday if I do come up - are you looking for another Drupal hand at either the table (I could represent the Central Illinois group and pimp our BU event in May) or the Hack-a-Thon?
