François Fillon, french prime minister, is a Drupal fan !!!
When I say that Drupal is getting a strong reputation in France.
Read in le figaro.fr :
» Son vocabulaire. François Fillon fait dans l'ensemble preuve d'une grande maîtrise dans l'usage de termes techniques, évoquant avec la même aisance «le CMS open source Drupal» et les flux RSS. De plus, c'est le premier ministre qui revendique spontanément être un «vrai geek», et vouloir «essayer toutes les nouveautés».
" Francois Fillon, in his vocabulary, masters technical terms, even speaking with ease of the open source CMS Drupal."

Bonjour,
Drupal booth at Open Source World
Drupal has been chosen to present in the open source pavilion at Open Source World. The spaces were limited so we are really excited to have been granted a booth. We have a strong community in the Bay Area, and would appreciate having people staff the booth to answer questions. We often need upwards of 6 people at the booth to answer questions during the rushes.
You can volunteer for different time slots, but we should have more people at the opening of the show and during the busy periods.

Drupal winners at the 2009 Horizon Interactive Awards
The Horizon Interactive Award results were announced today, and once again Drupal had a pretty good showing. We had five sites recognized at Palantir, and it looks like PingVision and studio:module were winners as well. There may also be other Drupal sites that I didn't see on my first pass through the list: http://www.horizoninteractiveawards.com/2009_winners_list.htm
Ultimate Drupal Tutorial Collection
Drupal is one of the most powerful open source content management system, voted by community and professionals as the best Open Source CMS in last two years. I have built many websites with Drupal, and found it a great solution for almost all kind of websites from simple blog to large corporate presentations.
Here is an Ultimate Drupal tutorial collection http://mogdesign.eu/blog/ultimate-drupal-tutorial-collection/
Adobe.com article: Building a Drupal site in 10 steps
I just saw my latest Drupal article is now published on Adobe.com, and this is the first in a series I have produced.
"Read on to see how you can set up a Drupal site in just 10 steps. Learn about adding content, altering menus, modules, and themes, and how to get your site ready for search engines and users."

Packt's "Author of the Year Award" a good chance for promoting Drupal
Packt Publishing is running an Author of the Year Award for books published in 2008. They've been big supporters of Drupal, and published a half-dozen books on Drupal last year (with at least that many coming out this year). The Open Source Acquisitions editor tells me that they are really enthusiastic about Drupal as a rising star in the Open Source world.
Spotify opens up to developers
hi guys,
This is just a quick "heads up" post. If you're not familiar with spotify, I recommend you try it out, if it's available where you are. It's probably the cleverest and slickest music app I've seen online since liquid audio (which became itunes music store).
Anyway..the heads up is that they've opened up to developers with a libspotify (C API package).
The following is from the spotify site:
New static pages for GDO on D6
Per Moshe in post http://groups.drupal.org/node/20725#comment-75055 "I think some static FAQ pages and such are perfectly reasonable and much needed. I don't think anyone is married to the current homepage for that matter. Please do forge ahead."
And with that the topic is raised.
What benefit can we gain from having front-page links to static content on GDO? Currently all we have is a "about this site" link at the bottom of every page. Beyond that, all pages are reached only if you enter through a group or a search result.
Let's get together in #drupal-groups and chat!
Hey "Local Users Group Organizers" gang! (and a few, select, cross posted groups)
If Spring is a season of rejuvenation in your part of the planet, then I hope yours is going better than it is here in Indiana. As the rains come and the grey clouds loom, I look forward to seeing the sun again AND to making efforts to grow the Local Drupal Users Group in my city.
Drupal at HostingCon, Washington DC
Last year Hostingcon was in Chicago, and the event was a success. We met a lot of hosting companies and helped to explain how Drupal is a top application for hosting companies. We educated hosting companies on what was possible with Drupal and how they could help users make the most of their Drupal sites.
Post about Drupal sites in 2009 Webby Awards
So, the Herron School of Art and Design web site has been nominated for Best School/University Web site on the Webby Awards. http://pv.webbyawards.com/nominee/entry/324 And the AIGA Chicago website got an Official Honoree as well. See http://www.palantir.net/blog/webbys-love-us for the full story on those two sites.
What other Drupal sites got nominated or Honoree'd for the Webby Awards?
Once we've got a list, we should create a front page post. Voting ends April 30, so we’ve got a little time.
Drupal fits all, does it? Survey
Open Source is about collaboration and modular enhancement of the core product. Do CMS end users debug and improve existing modules or do they write their own modules? This survey is being conducted to determine how much code Drupal implementers actually write. The advent of modules such as CCK, Views, Organic Groups, Workflow, Ubercart, E-Commerce, Panels and Actions along with a dozen or so other modules has a empowered web developers with the ability to create sites writing little or no custom code. Is this true? If you are Drupal user please take the survey at http://www.mahalasoft.co.za
Lullabot video: "Understanding Drupal"
Simon from our office attended DrupalCon DC and came back with a present for me, the Lullabot video "Understanding Drupal".
Google Maps as a way to make the Drupal eco-system visible
A great way to build Drupal's presence in your region is to start a Google Map of everyone in your country using Drupal.
Drupal training as a way to grow our region's eco-system
G'day from Em Space in Australia.
As Drupal becomes a popular CMS choice for business, government and education, Drupal skills are becoming hugely valuable, both for inhouse staff and freelancers. Unfortunately, there's a real shortage of great Drupal developers in our region. After quite some thought about solving the problem of our sparse supporting eco-system, we realised we needed to offer training here; a rare beast indeed throughout Australia and New Zealand. So, one of our goals now for 2009 is to help Drupal flourish here by developing more talented techies.

Drupal Media Camp 2009 (English Version)
The Swiss Drupal User Group is organizing the Drupal Media Camp with a special focus on the media and Drupal in Aarau, Switzerland. It will be covering:
- how Drupal can be used to develop complex web based media solutions and
- what is happening in the Drupal community in the media area.
We are interpreting the term media to mean all web media including video, audio, pictures, publishing, communities etc.
The conference is targeted towards:
Twitter strategy
I wanted to kick of a discussion about some Twitter strategy. @WordPress has almost 24K followers, and we've got a handful of non "official" accounts here and there.
Open Source Business Conference survey
Hi, if you wonder where all the suits in open source are, they are at OSBC here in San Francisco, March 23rd-24th. Dries will be giving one of the keynotes.

Drupal PR
I just posted http://drupal.org/node/376327 about some of my thought about Drupal promotion and also about how I became a member of the great Drupal community.
In it you will find some quick research info using Google and some ideas I have about how we should use new sites launched by big name companies and organisations to get more press cover about Drupal.
Drupal resource repository that does double as an online Drupal course
There is a lot of teaching content out there, but there is no central place that can get you to all of it.
Yesterday we had a discussion about the future of resources aggregation and moderation for Drupal (e.g. videocasts, recordings, audio, write-ups,...). I've got a part (the first 30 minutes are missing) transcript of the IRC session at http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dgtrwwgw_1dtmqc5c2
There were basically 3 use cases:
1) Drupal Dojo where people come to teach and learn - sort of social network for learning and mentoring
2) A Drupal materials aggregator - that collects everything and that is community moderated
3) A moderated content list - where a list of comprehensive materials is made available
CMS Report: Joomla versus Drupal survey
There are several good comparative reviews of Joomla and Drupal available on the internet. However, many of these reviews are out of date. None of the reviews I’ve seen rely on the opinions of broad selection of experienced professionals. Usually the reviews are the personal reflections of one well informed individual. Still, a lot can be gained by gathering the opinions of a large group of professionals, and seeing what patterns emerge.
The CMS Report link is: http://cmsreport.com/content/joomla-vs-drupal-opinion-survey
Drupal at the OpenExpo 2009 in Bern
The Drupal User Group Switzerland will be hosting a Drupal stand for the second time at the OpenExpo (http:://openexpo.ch), Switzerland's largest Open Source fair and conference:
The next OpenExpo takes place on April 1st and 2nd, 2009 in Bern, Switzerland. Next to the company and project exhibition there will be a two-day open source conference targeting three different audiences.
The Business Track is relevant for CIOs, IT managers and project leaders in SMEs and large enterprises, the Government Track is targeted towards politicians and leaders in public administration, and the Technology Track is most interesting for software engineers, system administrators and community members.
Drupal Classes or Courses at 3rd level/Uni/College, online or face to face?
Does anyone know of academic institutions offering classes or courses which cover Drupal?
Both face to face and/or online?
NB: Not courses using Drupal as a medium, rather: Drupal as the subject matter.
I would love to hear from lecturers who are planning courses, or who have taught Drupal in their courses. I would like to see examples, how they fit in to the existing academic programmes in their institutions, how they promote it, and what the outcomes have been.
Thank you!
Drupal.org Redesign Prototype: Iteration 11
Hi,
This week sees the release of iteration 11.
http://drupal.markboultondesign.com/iteration11
This week we have made lots of some smaller changes throughout the whole prototype, items that were delayed from iteration 10. For this release, we've paid particular attention to several pages:
-
Marketplace
-
Download and Extend
-
Modules landing page
-
Themes landing page
-
Search_by theme
-
Home page
-
Dashboard
There has been a lot of great feedback on the iteration 10 post, thank you all for your valuable input.

Drupal.org Redesign Prototype: Iteration 10
Hi,
This week sees the release of iteration 10 in the Drupal redesign prototype.
http://drupal.markboultondesign.com/iteration10
We're currently working with the Drupal Association to further define an advertising strategy for the redesigned d.o. Therefore, we've included a few more ads, but it probably isn't indicative of the final strategy.
Drupal.org re-design prototype iteration 8
Hi,
Iteration 8 is now available for you to browse and comment on. Last week the redesign took a pretty drastic change in direction so this week's release isn't as massive as we have worked to consolidate changes to the IA, reacting to feedback from the testing and to trends we have established in the community feedback.
Last week Leisa posted her thoughts on why we have moved in this direction and you can read her thoughts here:
http://www.disambiguity.com/drupalorg-redesign-iteration-7-for-your-revi...
Leisa will also be posting again shortly to further discuss our thoughts and reasons for recent changes as well as talking specifically about the modules section.
The link to the latest iteration is below:
Knight Drupal Initiative closing for 2008, program to reopen during DrupalCON DC
When the Knight Foundation announced the Knight Drupal Initiative at DrupalCON Boston, we entered a partnership with the Drupal community.
Our goal was to establish an open, ongoing grant application process for the purpose of creating better open source web applications.
The last six months have been phenomenal. Too successful, in fact. We currently have six proposals under funding review, with over $600,000 (USD) in potential grants for Drupal projects.
GoDaddy installs Drupal using Hosting Connection
Via this story, I see that GoDaddy now has their own auto installer, called Hosting Connection.
It installs Drupal amongst other scripts, and also includes a rating component.
We should:
- reach out to GoDaddy and see how Hosting Connection is run and updated with Drupal out of the box
- encourage people on GoDaddy to rate Drupal highly

Prototype Iteration #5 (including initial visual design direction)
Hi All,
The redesign has made great progress over recent weeks and we would really like to share this with you!
Below is a link to the latest iteration of the redesign prototype. Please take the time to look through the pages and feedback your thoughts and ideas in this thread.

We also welcome comments on the initial design and visuals, and as with previous weeks, all posts here will be read and fed back into the redesign process
What is Drupal worth?
Just found this article and I´m wondering what Drupal would be worth . . . any suggestions :-)
Packt Overall Open Source CMS Award voting ends today.
Policy on crediting sponsors?
I'm wondering if there's any official policy regarding crediting sponsors on G.D.O. - Could an individual credit sponsors in such a way as is displayed here?. Obviously there would have to be some guidelines if such a thing were allowed.
Drupal learning, mentoring, training, education, marketing and business... common goals and agendas
Just want to lay out the goals/objectives/resources from the various learning groups and see if we can identify some common goals and ways we can interface. I'll post this as a wiki in the hope we can collectively add resources, revise, and organize.
Sources of Free or Low Cost Drupal Swag/Bumpf
Inspired by heather's post here's a wiki to help collect ideas for sources of Drupal "stuff" to hand out at a user group, camp, or conference.

Free Drupal bumpf for zero-budget regional Drupal events?
We're planning a Drupal event here in Ireland. The "biggest Drupal event in Ireland- ever". We have about 40 people coming so far - and 2 coming from the DrupalUK user group too. (30 attendees are coming from MSc programmes planning to attend en masse). And we expect the numbers to rise in the next few weeks. Many of these attendees will be "curious" and not necessarily Drupal users (yet, muhuhaha).
This will be the first time they are seeing Drupal in action.
We have a zero budget: all volunteer efforts with a fully donated venue and catering from a local college. (YAY!)
Dojo 2.1: Another attempt to revive the Drupal learning and mentoring group
Several months have passed since the Dojo lost it's way a bit when some noble ninjas attempted to create a great deal of good for the Drupal project. In a group of 1500+ members, there is no way to achieve any sort of consensus to why it stalled, how it could succeed, or what the purpose was in the first place. There are, however, a lot of indicators that the concept/ideal of an open learning/mentoring group is solid and is worth reviving.
