New to Drupal - Course or Book Recommendation

My organization wants me to learn Drupal. They are interested in having me take a course, but all the information I've seen so far in this group links to more advanced courses. Are there any courses in LA for people new to Drupal? Are there any books anyone recommends for getting a basic introduction?

Alir, Welcome to the group.

Alir,

Welcome to the group. There are plans to offer beginner courses in the near future. I'd also recommend coming to monthly meetings, there will be a great session on how to setup a local test server at the next meeting (http://groups.drupal.org/node/9601). Recommended reading: Pro Drupal Development is a great book if you have worked with drupal and are familiar with publishing content and the basics but are looking to utilize some PHP code to manipulate modules and themes. Drupal 5 Themes is a good book for people looking to change the way Drupal looks and feels. It is written mainly for visual people, it introduces snippets of php that you can copy and paste.

Hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you at the next meetup.
