The third Inland Empire Drupal meetup will be held on Thursday, January 13 from 7-9pm. This is a free event and everyone is invited - we have a large venue with plenty of space so if you're in the area please join us! If you'd like to follow along just bring your laptop / charger.

Location
HMC Architects - 3546 Concours Street, Ontario, CA 91764

This month we'll be meeting in the 1st floor training room2nd floor conference room - just come in the main entrance then up the metal stairs and it'll be immediately on your left (see interior photo below). There is another group meeting in our usual 1st floor location - just head on up the stairs and you'll find where we're meeting tonight.

Agenda
- User to user support (install issues & misc Drupal discussions)
- Drupal 7 (first impressions, overview of functionality & some comparisons to 6 - if somebody wants to present on more of technical development & theming issues that'd be great)
- SandCamp 2011 Recap (if possible): I'm not sure if I can make it to SandCamp personally but if any of you are going to SandCamp 2011 it'd be great if you could do a short presentation on what the rest of us missed)
- Lightning talks (short presentations by users - if you'd like to do one please leave your topic in comments below)

Please RSVP with the "sign up" button below so we have an accurate headcount . If you can't make it to this particular IE Drupal event there will be more on the 2nd Thursday of each month - see the IE Drupal homepage for details on what will be covered prior to the meetup.

install issues

I am still unable to install php admin on my mac laptop, so some discussion on that would be appreciated at the meeting.

Are you using MAMP or MAMP

christefano's picture

Are you using MAMP or MAMP Pro?

   http://www.mamp.info

MAMP includes phpMyAdmin and has it pre-configured for MAMP's non-standard MySQL port.

Insall problem on Mac Laptop

I am using MAMP. I did an internet search someone said that on a mac that has had a system upgrade, something gets messed up so that phpAdmin doesn't work on a MAMP install. If this is the case, I don't know enough to review and modify the settings. I am using Leopard.

Hmm. I just went through the

Hmm. I just went through the install process on my new Mac - here's what I did.

  • I installed MAMP. I read somewhere that if you install MAMP anywhere other than Applications or change it's folder name that you can have problems...
  • Went to MAMP preferences (MAMP app then click preferences button) and set my ports do default Apache/MySQL (80/3306)
  • Installed Drush for awesome Drupal command line access ( http://drupal.org/project/drush )
  • Added my ssh keys for .ssh user folder for connecting to my production site
  • Edited my apache virtual hosts ( http://danilo.ariadoss.com/how-to-setup-virtual-hosts-mamp-environment/ ) so I could just type "http://site1.dev" instead of "http://localhost/site1.dev"

Mike Stewart suggested I give Quickstart ( http://drupal.org/project/quickstart ) a try when I was looking for ways to get Drupal up and running on my Mac. Quickstart is a virtual machine image and worked great. It's a complete install of Linux completely configured with just about everything a Drupal dev could want. You can just download VirtualBox (free virtualization software) and the machine image and you'll have everything up and running right away.

While I was impressed with the tech I ended up not using it for my primary work. I bought the Mac hoping to have a better experience and I found it frustrating to have Linux style shortcut keys during Drupal work then Mac style shortcut keys for other things... So I ended up just using Mac/MAMP instead of Quickstart but that's a personal decision... Still worth looking into though and I'm sure I'll still use it periodically because it's pre-configured.

I will not be there tonight; need to attend something with my wife.

Sigh . . . I really wanted to show off my new t-shirt. Sandcamp was great.

For those coming tonight we're actually meeting in the 2nd floor main conference room instead of the 1st floor space that we normally have reserved.

John & Paul - we're going to miss you guys tonight but hope to see you next time.
