Hello!
I've been building Academic Research websites for the past few years. The past four years has been exclusively with Drupal. I'm quite an enthusiast. I have worked entirely at home and It can leave me feeling isolated/lonely. So I founded the Ann Arbor Drupal Users Group and it has been a wonderful experience for me. I have met great colleagues and friends across all sectors. We meet monthly and freely share what we know about Drupal.
In July 08, I will be moving to Ames, Iowa. I'm really excited. For the first time in my life I am moving to a place without plans of moving again. Ahhh, stability! Plus, I pulled a rabbit out of my hat and sold my house in this awful market. So now nothing stands in my way and it looks like my money goes a lot farther in Ames. The down-turn feels sooo much better now that I am a buyer.
We will be in town house hunting over the weekend (6-11 June 08) and into next week. Might there be any Drupal people in town who want to get a drink one night? We don't know anyone yet and don't know were to go.
I have hopes of creating a similar Drupal user group in Ames and was pleasantly surprised to see this group already existed. I recognize quite a few names in the member list but it looks like this group has lost some momentum. Let's see what we can do about that in the coming months.
Regards,

Welcome
Hi Michael,
You are moving to the Drupal capital of the midwest as I like to joke. Both authors of the Pro Drupal Development book lived here when that was written but one (the manager of this group :) ) has since moved West. I've been doing Drupal development professionally for the last 2 years for an Ames company.
I'd love to grab a beer and welcome you to town and maybe even talk shop. Also, please feel free to contact me about any Ames information, housing, etc. I've been here for 20 years.
PS. What will you be doing in Ames - working at ISU?

Part time/Full time
I'm only a part time Drupal developer, but I'm a full time beer drinker, so I'm in. :)
RE: I will be in Ames
Hi Michael,
Welcome to Ames, I am a Drupal beginner, we are trying to use Drupal as the CMS on our College Web Server.
Let me know if you need any information about Ames, I have lived here for the last 40 years and I have been a student or worked at ISU most of that time.
Let me know if you would like to go out for a meal or a drink.

Ames just got a little sweeter.
dldege, thillson, jrt, and others yet to speak up,
Thanks for the great welcome.
For simplicity, can dldege (he wrote first) pick a day and place?
I can do Friday, Sunday or Tuesday night. Pick the one that works best for you?
Where? Maybe someplace I can eat too.
Time? 7pm - 12am any night works for me.
Please, set it up for us dldege. Hopefully, we might get a few more people.
I'm sure we will talk shop (I can't help it) but my wife would love it if we took some time to talk about other things too (life in Ames, housing, University, culture, entertainment).
She is an ecologist and will be starting at ISU in August. Maybe you guys have someone to bring along so she has someone to talk to when we go overboard and drill-down into the hobbit hole of Drupal.
what will I be doing?
At first, I will be bringing on-going work from Duke, PSU and UMich.
But hopefully, I will find some new and interesting things at ISU or even out side the University.
I remain open to new projects in what ever form.
Moving is a great time to re-invent yourself.

Drupal Meetup
Welcome,
I too work at ISU, we have been using drupal for all of our sites in our area (15+) for about three years now. I think there is enough interest to start a monthly meeting of the Iowa group, what are everyone's thoughts.

Awesome
How about Tuesday, June 10th at Old Chicago Pizza at 7PM? Its not the best place in town but does have a mighty good beer selection and is easy to find. Also, I need to be in that part of town anyway later that evening.
