Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey Y'all, My name is Bobby and I live in Brooklyn. I've been having a longstanding problem with my website which was created using Drupal. I've been having problems getting the site to create a thumbnail and subsequently I've been unable to post new images to my site. I was wondering if anyone out there had any insight to the nature of this problem or would be able to devote a few moments to reply and or to investigate this problem for me. I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Could use a few more of 'em. What modules are you using? Drupal doesn't do any sort of image resizing by default, you'll need imagecache for that. What version of Drupal are you using?

Jerad, Thanks so much for

Jerad, Thanks so much for the reply. Let me say this first before I attempt to answer your inquiries: I am not proficient in Drupal nor am I familiar with many of it's functions. With that being said, I'm not even that "computer savvy". Someone simply built the site for me and I plug stuff in and hit a button. So with that said, I'll try and answer some of your questions. First off as far as modules, I'm using (and please pardon the long list if you're just inquiring about the "image enabling" modules): comment, flexinode, front_page, help, image, inline, menu, node, page, path, profile, story, taxonomy, taxonomy_context, upload, and finally, urlfilter! Whew! Anyhow, those are the suckers that are checked when I go to the "modules page" in admin. I understand about the image resizing. Essentially, I resize the photo that I want to upload in photoshop to about 430x323 and this gives me a nice display size on my site. Traditionally, "the site/drupal" created a thumbnail of the image for display on the front page as well as where I was displaying the image, but magically one day, it "stopped working". In other words one day it told me in red letters, "cannot create thumbnail image" and that was the end of that, so to speak. As far as the version of Drupal I'm using, again forgive me, but I think it's somewhere in the 4.0's. My apologies, but I'm not exactly sure what version it is. Is there any way to tell what version?

Check the issue queue for

Check the issue queue for whatever module you are using to upload images. If you're using image.module also keep in mind that image.module which allows users to upload images, as opposed to image attach, which simply allows users to attach an image to a node. Two subtly different things, that have completely different effects.

Mike, thanks for the reply.

Mike, thanks for the reply. OK, so here's the deal. I think what you're asking is how do I upload the image. Basically(and traditionally), I go into admin (and again, forgive the juvenile nature of my reply) I click on "create content". From there, I click "image". I create the title, scroll down, choose my "image gallery"(as I have a few on my site, www.areyouavictim.com), click on "image" to retrieve the desired image from my computer, and hit submit, and wha la, usually it created the image in the "POTM"(Photo Of The Moment) section of the site and created a thumbnail for the front page. Until that fateful day when it told me, "unable to create thumbnail image" and that was the end of the front page thumbnail image. Hope this helps and again, I appreciate the reply!

Don't fail me now!!!

Did anything change in your hosting environment?

Hmm, I'm assuming so...

Thanks Bill for the response. Well I'm assuming so, I'm just not sure what "changes in the hosting environment" exactly constitutes. Would you mind giving some examples of change in the hosting environment so I might be able to better identify one of these changes? Like I had said up there, it was literally one day and the function didn't work. So if there were any changes, I was definitely not aware or notified of them. Again, thanks for the response, I truly appreciate it!

It could be one of many

It could be one of many things -- glitches like what you describe can occur when server hardware or software is upgraded, and you have changes in php version, the way rights are assigned, etc. Contact your ISP and see if any changes/upgrades have occurred recently.

Word, I appreciate that,

robertpuleo's picture

Word, I appreciate that, even though I barely understand it. Actually, I think I understand what you mean. So essentially what you're saying is that my ISP can actually affect the content or way my website performs? Or/and it can affect Drupal's functions or performance? I mean am I getting that right? And that I should contact my ISP (which is Liquid Web, by the way, if that matters) and ask them if any changes/upgrades have occurred recently. OK, I can't understand how that would work, but I'll ask(and by the way, this function hasn't worked since last November) and see what they say. So, what if they say yes? What if they say no? Thanks so much, I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

Could this conversation be

Could this conversation be continued in the support forums or an issue queue where the entire subscribed New York Drupal group doesn't have to get email notifications about it?

Thanks.
