UPDATE - We've added a second presentation! Cheese sponsorship is still open. ;-)

July's SF DUG is on Bastille Day - so it's perfect that we'll be at PariSoma!

Advomatic's Neil Drumm will present "How to Scale your Drupal Site"
* How to plan your server architecture
* Client-side optimization- HTML, CSS & JavaScript
* Server-side optimization- Drupal, PHP, Apache, MySQL
* What diagnostic tools to use

I'm working on getting another presentation, but always feel free to email me if you want to a) present something, b) bring up a topic or conversation!

In honor of Bastille Day, we'll have a couple bottles of wine (and beer, water and soda). Anyone wanna sponsor some cheese? ;-)

Hey - this might be of interest. LADrupal.org hosted an awesopme meeting in June on scaling Drupal. The agenda was slightly different and focussed on server issues, but slides and video of the meeting (edited into small byte size pieces) are available here:

Second presentation at SF DUG - Patterns!

We've got another presentation scheduled for Monday's SF Drupal User's Group meeting! It will be a packed session - and I will try to capture both as screencasts (unless Neil goes the whiteboard route...)

Our second session will be by Chris Bryant, from Gravitek Labs. Chris will open a discussion about site configuration patterns and show a demonstration of the Patterns module, a proof of concept module for allowing automatable site configuration similar to install profiles but also able to be run on existing sites. It's goal is to be able to define and automate site configurations in an easy to read and manageable format in a modular fashion that allows combining different sets of functionality (for instance, Blog patterns, Wiki patterns, SEO patterns, Performance patterns, etc.)

If there is additional time left, he will show a preview Dreamfish.com, a new Drupal based collaboration and networking platform that makes extensive use of CCK, Views, Panels 2, Organic Groups, some new custom modules and some heavy theming.

I was very excited when I first saw patterns in the BOF at drupalcon. It seems to be the right approach to install profiles. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to keep my eye on it recently, so I'd love it if there were any way for us to see this presentation.

Thanks

Enlightening and validating meeting about performance and caching. Good to know that I've set the right things for my own site, and that there's a lot more that can be done to improve performance on large Drupal sites.

Also an interesting chat with Kieren about Joomla vs. Drupal, regarding roles and user permissions.

Thanks again, and looking forward to next month!
