Drupal Multimedia
I'd love to present a session about Drupal Multimedia at DrupalCampNYC! I won't be able to make it to this next meeting on the 30th, but do plan to come up for the camp, assuming the dates work for me.

Hello Aaron
Could you provide an outline for what you wouldlike to present at the camp? Please include details and relevant links.
Since you wont be able to attend this next meetup, we can present your ideas for you and consider you in our scheduling.
Thanks!

Drupal Multimedia Session Proposal
Aaron Winborn, from Advomatic, will present an overview of the multimedia options for Drupal. In this session, we'll examine best practices for handling Images, Video, and Audio on your sites. We'll cover the modules best suited to specific tasks, with some hands-on examples and site recipes.
He has just completed writing Drupal Multimedia, to be published in September. (Read the announcement at Drupal.org.) He presented a similar topic at DrupalCampNYC in the spring of 2007, although geared towards images, before writing the precursor to Embedded Media Field at another collaborative session there, which he finished during OSCON later that Spring.
Images
Video
Audio
Although he presented this session as part of a panel at DrupalCon Boston this spring, this time will be more focused on the current capabilities of Drupal 6 to handle multimedia (which is shaping up to be better than ever). He will be coming from a code sprint in Portland, which among other goals hopes to put better media and file handling into Drupal core.
Prerequisites:
An interest in Drupal and Multimedia. This is geared towards the beginner who wants to know what Drupal is capable of, and/or towards someone wanting to know which of the hundreds of media-handling modules is best for their needs.
Goals:
By the end of the session, we will have covered a broad overview of what's available for Drupal and Multimedia. Attendees will hopefully leave with an idea of the basic media module(s) to install.

Images in Drupal 6
I am just digging into Drupal 6 and I am stuck at what seems to be an issue with ImageField not being ready for D6 and FileField image hitting a brick wall. From what I can tell, the FileField Image functionality is currently being ported over to ImageField.
I'll be interested to find out what the best approach would be to use CCK enabled image fields that allow for me to rearrange their order when uploading more than one per node. Should I wait for ImageField?
Wait for it
Yes, I'd suggest waiting for ImageField.
I believe the latest dev version of FileField + ImageField works now (as of Monday or Tuesday). Though you might have a problem if Dopry changes the data structure again.
I'm not sure about rearranging field order. Is that a feature in the newest CCK? That would be nice.

I would like to present my newest module called mail_edit and it's features for d6. Also i would like to touch briefly on the subject of JavaScript with Drupal, how can we use it to enrich our site. One of my latest projects called js_theming (check it on d.o modules) offers a library of javascript functions which are replica of drupal core php theming functions. I will give a short presentation on what this offers to the user end development.

Paradigm Shift
The js_theming module should be an interesting project. It's a paradigm shift, moving theming to the client. Sort of inevitable in some ways, considering the move towards everything jQuery the past year. I'm excited to see how it shapes up, and am interested in attending this session.

Awesome!
Really looking forward to next week!
Add to iCal ?
Is(n't) there a way to automatically add the meeting to my calendar…?
I thought someone had set that up. -ƒ.

On the right block there's an " Ical feed for this group". perhaps that should work.

Single Click RSVP
I guess I wasn't clear, I was asking about a way to add it to your calendar when you rsvp, instead of having to then click the iCal link too.
Alhough you would, come to think of it, have to have some method to deal with non ICS users? -ƒ.
I would love to brainstorm

iCal Automatic Subscriptions
The problem is that the OG module only creates an iCal feed for groups, and doesn't create an iCal feed unique to you of only events you have signed up to attend. Even still though, you can subscribe to:

..... And get events that are only coming up in New York.
We are still looking for
We are still looking for more topics for presentation and people that would like to present on them.
Please comment here on what you would like to hera about and what you can give a talk about. being fully prepared (ie slides, etc) is not necessary.

Regarding length of a talk, i'd say play by ear. 30 minute talk sounds like a good time frame to me.

Hey Jay
I could help out with this session if you'd like. If Sumit finishes off more of the OAuth stuff, we could fit that in too!
migrating to d6
I think a great topic of discussion for the general group would be migrating sites from drupal 5 to 6 and what all that entails, where to find help, etc.
hmms...
This is a topic you can so much read about it everywhere.
The Problem is that you can't bother people with database related stuff when their first question they have is "how to install Drupal 6" which is one of the most questions I hear on every camp/meetup ... :-/

Get Drupal nacked
Someday we should really have a session "Get Drupal nacked" where Pro's explain how everything is working together and related to each other.
To build fancy stuff there has to be a topic like this.
Like
views argument handling / dynamic views
build helper modules instead of destroying the core :)
and so on...

Tonight
Hey Jake, I just had to cancel because of a last minute work change - perhaps you can have my spot.
how do I do that
Thanks much but...do I just tell the desk I'm you? Security is usually pretty tight, they check legal ID... Without an official name on the invite list, I may be out of luck...

I figured the same. I "unsigned up" via the event thing on here as I'm under the weather today and not coming into the city.

I'm not able to visit NYC on
I'm not able to visit NYC on the weekends of August, 2, August 23 or September 20, so would vote against those dates if I were present. My schedule is wide open for any other weekend in August or September.

August 23rd Not Good for Me
Weekend of August 23rd is out for me as well. I'm reasonably open for September, with the exception of the weekend of September 20th.
That said, I'd love to make DrupalCamp but if August works best for everyone else go for it!
Other Session Ideas
I'm happy to present other sessions, and/or be part of panel discussions (which are always fun). Past camps I've been too also had open schedule slots for BOF sessions and the like.
Other possible topics I would like to be part of:
Anyone interested in being part of a panel with one or more of these topics? I'm interested in teaming up for other ideas as well. These are just current interests of mine, but I'm game for leading presentations on a multitude of other topics, particularly involving multimedia.

Thank you everyone from
Thank you everyone from coming out today. i personally had a wonderful time with all of you during the meeting and with those after the meeting. I hope seeing more of you come back for the upcoming meetups. I would love to hear your feedback which will shape the future of this group. After all this is group for the drupal community by drupal community in new york area and that what makes it great :-D.

I thought it was great...
Thank you to Oleg and everybody else. I enjoyed it thought it was great. I personally would like to see a part time in the future dedicated to solving particular problem that topic which could be decided in advance. Perhaps we could vote on what most people would like to know. However, if we are going to have mini-camps/sessions as Oleg proposed maybe it is better to happen there. That being said, I would be fine if nothing changed.

Thanks for hosting
Yes, thanks to Oleg and everyone who hosted. I am glad that I finally able to get myself over to the meeting; I will be there from now on!
thanks & comments
Thanks, Oleg for hosting & getting me into the meeting late. This was my second meeting (I last attended almost a year ago) and I was impressed, again, by the breadth and depth of the meeting topics and the turnout. Although I wasn't able to stay until the very end, can I make a few candid suggestions?
Again, please don't take these comments in any other context than the helpful spirit they are being provided in. I myself am a lousy presenter and have been panned for some of the reasons I bring up above. I think the meeting was wonderful and enjoyed the presentations myself immensly. Oleg- I think you're onto something with the json stuff and believe that json representation of views and nodes with a restful API probably belongs in core, although I have no bearing on those kind of decisions whatsoever.
Regards,
Jake
My 2 cents and thanks
I would like to echo the sentiments. Really enjoyed the meeting. Special thanks to all the presenters for presenting such interesting things. A good mix of fun/cool + cutting edge + real life/real work.
I have a couple of items I'd like to provide my input on...
Providing feedback to presenters...
Hey, everyone who gives a presentation or teaches a session at a meetup or drupal camp is doing so with no remuneration. I'm thankful that they are presenting at all. Not so sure a public forum is the best place to share feedback on this sort of thing though. I propose that we see if there is some way we can collect feedback from these events in a more neutral way such as a poll. I would be happy to volunteer to produce an appropriate poll for this sort of thing in future. Anyone know what poll modules (if any) are being used on groups.drupal.org or how we can add more? The standard "Create Poll" option I don't think is up to this task. If not, I can see about hosting the poll on another Drupal site and then reporting it back to the group as a report later on (for high level feedback) and to presenters for feedback for them personally.
This assuming there is support for this idea at all. Perhaps folks would rather just provide their feedback directly to the presenter and leave it at that...
Intro sessions and other things for Drupal camp
There seemed to be a lot of discussion about how this can be done better, etc. Although that is always a valid question, many of those making suggestions either hadn't been to a Drupal NYC camp or hadn't participated in the Intro session that was done at the last Drupal camp. There also seemed to be some confusion about how often Drupal Camp NYC takes place. There was actually one pretty recently and I don't think a lot of folks in the room realized that.
Anyway, for those who missed it Thomas Turnbull's intro to drupal presentation was extremely well done. He gave students instructions for what to do before they came to camp (downloading things to their computer, etc.), spent time at the beginning of the session helping folks get MAMP, XAMP, etc. going, then gave in my view a well structured presentation going through all the basic areas and finishing of with a nice media flourish. I have a couple of suggestions for tweaking this, but even if Thomas (or someone else who saw it if Thomas doesn't want to do it again, etc.) does it exactly the same way I think it will be excellent.
One more thing on Drupal camp. It is a Bar camp meaning it is an "un-conference" by design. I for one would resist trying to put too much structure to it as far as how presentations should be organized. Here is a page about the rules of a barcamp for those unfamiliar...
http://barcamp.pbwiki.com/TheRulesOfBarCamp
Hope to see you all soon at DrupalCampNYC.
re: Thomas and the intro to drupal session
Everyone that was in the intensive intro to drupal that Thomas ran at the last drupalcamp was talking about it afterwards. the few drupal newbies that I convinced to attend learned and retained a lot of information -- and also left with (and understanding) their own development environment running on their laptops.
Thanks!
I want to extend my thanks to Oleg, the presenters, and everyone else behind the scenes who made this meeting happen. Plus, an extra special callout to all the folks on IRC who were good sports about being spammed by Rob and his buddy The Bot. ;-)
This is was my second meeting - I've been making a special trip in from Jersey - and it's been great. Thanks everyone for making it happen.
I've learned a lot so far from the existing format. If I was to make a suggestion, it might be a good idea to have a range of newbie, intermediate and advanced topics. There were a number of folks at the meeting that were totally new to Drupal and plenty of developers at the other end. (I'm right in the middle, so I'd find it all useful.) Having some topics specifically geared toward people just getting started would be great and it might be a good refresher for the advanced folks. A topic on theming comes to mind.
Thanks again and kudos!
Justin
Great meetup!
There's something about Drupal that creates infectious enthusiasm and that makes the meetups (and the people who attend) all that more engaging.
Last night's presenters were excellent.
What's the Verdict?
When's DrupalCampNYC? Did I miss an announcement? Was this decided at the meetup? I need to arrange my travel plans.
