LIGHTNING ROUNDS
New feature. Have a topic you can present in 5 minutes (with 5 more minutes for questions)? The basic idea is there are patterns for developing sites the "drupal" way ("what would drupal do? etc."). Tell us a quick 5 minute recipe for how to put the Drupal "bricks" together. Theming techniques or other things may also be appropriate. Propose it below. Make sure you mention it is for the "lightning round" otherwise it might get confused with a longer presentation.- Open Lightning Round Topic - Suggest

Request for a DrupalNYC community-sponsored sticker
Can't wait. Was wondering if anyone had any of the NYC Community Stickers. I'd be glad to purchase one if I could.
Gotcha covered
I'll have some at the meeting tonight.

DrupalCon report back?
Think it makes sense/sounds interesting to have some sort of group report back on DrupalCon? Kind of like a highlights reel? It can be relatively short & accompanied by information on how to navigate the DrupalCon website to access the free videos embedded there from archive.org. Folks can also share where they posted notes, blog posts, etc if they have any (I do!)

I think this is definitely a great idea. This would be immensely relevant for those (like myself) that couldn't make it! Good to keep up with what's popping in the community.
Content audit
I can do a quick talk about using Views to create a content audit. Most sites need regular content review to locate and resolve issues such as unpublished content, outdated or inaccurate content, redundancies, content in the wrong place, missing content or content that doesn't meet quality standards.
I'm releasing a little Features module that includes the View and audit notes field as well.

jBart jQuery ToolKit and Drupal
im thinking about giving a small intro presentation to jBart and how you can use it to leverage drupal. But right now i dont know if im able to do it yet since i haven't gone over all the material yet. So will have to let you guys know before the meetup.
This was shown to me by Erez that I met at drupalcon chicago and i thought it was pretty darn cool and its definately the wave of the future of how we edit and manage content. It kind of blew me away with what it could do with no coding involved.
You can think of it as an interactive Views Creator where you can drag and drop stuff. Or like how google instant is, but for Drupal. No more clicking submit and waiting for the page to load, everything is ajax.
Also the amazing thing is that you could make embed-able widgets using the data stored on your drupal site. Think of facebook widgets...
Erez made a quick search box that leveraged my products from my site and you can see a demo here:
http://buss-art.appspot.com/bartgallery.html#?page=widget?node=bart_samp...
His jBart tutorial is here:
http://jbarttutorial.blogspot.com/2011/02/hello-world-with-jbart.html - definitely needs more documentation..
Erez cant make it since he lives in Israel and I wanted to put this amazing find out in the open.

i would like to give a short demo of this in action. i made small widget using xml data from my drupal site.

I would like to discuss a Drupal-based Japan aid project
I would like to discuss a Drupal-based Japan aid project I am starting for the nuclear reactor crisis.
The Overview describes the problem to be addressed, and there are several forum topics set up to discuss the problem, and how to build a social action network to make sure the problem is properly addressed by the Japanese government and nuclear industry.
Here is a link to the draft web site, which is built on D7:
http://www.gnomics.org/fukushima-kb/page/1
There is a need for an online forum and knowledge base, where different groups can discuss the possible solutions, as well as organize a social action network that likely will be needed to get the proper solution implemented.
This Drupal site will also integrate closely with coordinated Twitter and Facebook campaigns
I would like to talk for about 20 minutes, and then break out with people who are interested in pariticipating and contributing.
Birds of a feather?
Aid to Japan is a very noble cause.
But this is a Drupal meetup. Those who have been attending meetup for the last couple of years know the problems our group had when we strayed too far from that.
My vote is breakout only.
I would appreciate it if the other organizers for the group would weigh in on this too.
Response to winston's comment
I have several responses to winston's comment, that this is a "Drupal meetup", and that a project to build a Drupal 7 based social action network for aiding the Japan nuclear crisis is somehow "straying" from the purpose of our Drupal meetup.
i: my immediate response is that this is a rather odd view about what should considered relevant for a Drupal meetup. Drupal is strongly associated with advocacy groups, and humanitarian efforts in general, and this aid project is very much in keeping with that tradition.
ii: I have no idea what is meant by the statement that "Those who have been attending the meetup ... know the problems our group had when we strayed too far from that"
I have been attending meetups for nearly 4 years, but I do not know what is meant by this. Please explain and/or give examples.
iii: To further clarify on the goal and design of the project, which is somewhat complicated, but not really unusual. The recent events in Tunisia, Egypt, etc. have shown the tremendous power that Twitter, Facebook and potentially other social media can give to people to resist improper actions by their governments and/or political or corporate groups.
The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima I plant is being clearly mishandled by the power company, TEPCO, who has supposedly been "partnering" with the Japanese government to respond to this emergency. If this is left up to TEPCO, there will be repeated delays and denials in how to properly deal with this crisis - in order to save money - until an even larger major radioactive release occurs that creates an even greater catastrophe for Japan and for the world. This is entirely analogous to the denials and delays that BP repeatedly made during the Caribbean oil crisis, that led to massive amounts of oil release into the environment for many months.
There is a need for an open, objective online forum for the various scientific, political, environmental, health and other issues to be presented clearly and accurately, so that the various possible problems and scenarios can be presented to the Japanese people. That is the "knowledge base" component of the Drupal site. So far, TEPCO and the government have kept them very much in the dark about the nuclear crisis, and the tremendous dangers it still presents. There also is a need for a forum in which the Japanese people can organize a social action network to build pressure on the government and TEPCO to respond properly to the response. That "social action network" is the other component of the Drupal site.
Drupal claims - and aspires - to be an important social media tool like Facebook and Twitter. This crisis is a situation in which there is a tremendous opportunity for Drupal to make an important contribution to mediating social action in a crisis situation, as Facebook and Twitter already have proven to be successful.
In particular, this is a tremendous opportunity to make great use of the many powerful features that Drupal provides: internalization tools for programmatically translating text between different languages, forums for threaded discussions of complex issues, a database of news articles and documents needed for evaluation of the crisis, integration with other social media such as Facebook and Twitter, etc. I really don't see how this project is "outside" the interests of the DrupalNYC meetup community.
I would like to have 20 minutes to describe the crisis situation, and explain how we can effectively use Drupal to aid the crisis response, before we break out in different groups.
If I remember correctly,
If I remember correctly, mcaudy had a brief talk about Haiti after the catastrophe there, that resulted in a breakout group. I didn't see any problems with that, and it got a lot of people working together afterwards.
So long as the topic covers how Drupal can be used to make things better, and what methods are in question, I don't see this not being relevant; we can discuss what technologies are being used and how they can be integrated. Perhaps focusing more on what tools are available and how they are being used to address the situation as a presentation, and letting the crisis details stick to the breakout might be a good idea?
If the presentation is about
If the presentation is about Drupal, the features on the site and how they're built, then it is a site showcase and seems appropriate as a presentation for the meetup.
Thanks for weighing in
Thanks Ezra, Orb,
I'll add it to the schedule on that basis.
I would like to hear more
I would like to hear more about mcaudy's initiative. Although I do not have time to help at the moment, I also volunteer my web dev for many causes. This is a relevant topic for the group, not just a peripheral pursuit. Drupal is a powerful tool for coordinating aid efforts.

Bi-weekly meetings could be
Bi-weekly meetings could be a way to fit more presentations in without the painful process of deciding what has the most merit. Just a thought. It also occurs to me that presenters may find another audience at the NNJ DUG although the primary purpose of this post is not to promote NNJ - it's in response to the debates on how to schedule all the requests for talks at each NYC meetup.

Thought I'd make it tonight but it is not happening. Sorry to miss everyone especially as I saw folks so little during Drupalcon. (Have not mastered that...'don't even think of getting any work out of me during Drupalcon' thing.) Was looking forward the duckx's session on jbart and lisa's on content auditing. Enjoy.
