Plans?

  • LIGHTNING ROUNDS
New feature. Have a topic you can present in 5 minutes (with 5 more minutes for questions)? The basic idea is there are patterns for developing sites the "drupal" way ("what would drupal do? etc."). Tell us a quick 5 minute recipe for how to put the Drupal "bricks" together. Theming techniques or other things may also be appropriate. Propose it below. Make sure you mention it is for the "lightning round" otherwise it might get confused with a longer presentation.

    • Input Formats Filters - ericduran
    • Two factor authentication example (SMS) - coltrane
    • Open Lightning Round Topic - Suggest
  • Features in Action on a Live Site: Hows, Whys and Gotchas - bleen18
  • Swift Mailer and Drupal (PHP Mailer alternative) - wildfeed
  • Node.js - LSU_JBob
  • Update on Relief Site for Japan - mcaudy
  • drupalorg Content Audit Follow-up - lisarex
  • n00b/beginners BoF
  • NYC Drupal Camp 9 - Post Mortem and re-cap
  • NYC DrupalCon 2013 - Organizers Discussion

Signup Instructions!: 7 World Trade Center security checks your photo id against the list of attendees that we provide. Therefore, if your name is not on the list they will not let you in. Please ensure to put your full name in your groups.drupal.org profile. Also, Signup closes midnight of the day before the event. We don't have the luxury to add "last minute" attendees.

Lightning Round Proposal: I

ericduran's picture

Lightning Round Proposal:

I was thinking just a quick lightning round on format filters module. Specifically I'm looking for feedbacks and ideas on a better implementation of filter formats.

One idea I came up with was Tabular Formats (http://drupal.org/sandbox/ericduran/1122094) which is completely different then the way drupal currently does it. I'm sure there's more ideas so I'm just demoing and soliciting feedback ;-)

Good UI!

patoshi's picture

wow never thought about that... what an obvious ui improvement! but obviously it aint obvious until you pointed it out..... maybe have the tabs color coded so they can be differentiated easily. good for ui since you can just tell the client click on the "red tab" or "green tab", instead of click on the html tab. good for the non tech savy as the word html scares some ppl off.

since most sites would have no more than 5 filter formats or less.. one light red, light blue, light green, etc and make them darker if its currently on.

great find!

I'm interested in this.

orbgasm's picture

I'm interested in this. Should I just call it 'filter formats?'

I agree that this is an excellent UI improvement.

Proposal: I think by now most

bleen's picture

Proposal:

I think by now most people have at least heard about using features and have a vague idea of the benefits. I'd like to do a session on how we used features in practice on a site I've been working on for the past couple of months. Ill talk about the how and the why, and also some of the gotcha's we ran into.

Excited to see this

Excited to hear more about Features and things to look out for.

Cool! These are my favorites.

Cool! These are my favorites.

yes!

LSU_JBob's picture

Heck yeah, I have some features horror stories and features super successes I'd be willing to share.

Very interested in this.

kmoll's picture

Very interested in this. Diving into features as we speak and would love to get a better explanation of when it would be useful to use features vs. creating a new module.

Are you suggesting that you

Are you suggesting that you would like to talk about this? Or are you asking for help on these topics?

useful topics

i just think that if i were going (70/30), those would be the most useful to me

Open Slot Proposal: Swift Mailer and Drupal

wildfeed's picture

For a long time I've been looking for an alternative to PHP Mailer and I think I've found it in Swift Mailer. I've got it working with D6 and would like to demonstrate some advantages and discuss it's potential.

Would like to hear all about it

esod's picture

I would like to know more about Mail technologies, newsletters and HTML email in/from Drupal.

Looking for Freelancer

bezu60's picture

I will be at the meetup and I may be looking to hire a freelancer for the following:

Create a sandbox for my site
Help me to create a members only section
Some coaching

This is for a Non-profit with a small budget. If you are interested look for me at the meetup or drop me a line through the contact form. I'm putting this here because I need somebody in New York.

Thanks,

Beth

The meetup is a great place

orbgasm's picture

The meetup is a great place to meet new people and potentially hire somebody for a project. However, please try to keep job postings to the jobs section of the group.

cool

Lightning talk on two-factor authentication

coltrane's picture

I could present in the lightning round time on two-factor authentication for Drupal sites. Two-factor authentication is (often) when you authenticate with something you have, in addition to something you know. I've started a sandbox module for this using SMS http://drupal.org/sandbox/coltrane/1099690

Interested

Yeah, I'll love to see this.

Yeah, I'll love to see this. A couple of us were having a discussion about this same exact thing at drupalcamp.

Lightning Round Suggestion

Node.js? Setting up your server and using the integration module.

Can you post your presentation from last night? Thanks

It wasn't much

LSU_JBob's picture

It was just 5 or 6 slides I had thrown together plus an interactive demo. I'm in the process of making this presentation and demo more "internet friendly". In the meantime check out the module page:

http://drupal.org/project/nodejs There is a cool video and the documentation that comes with the module is pretty clear.

When u get that running try setting up extensions by using this sandbox project:

I would like to give a 5 minute update ...

mcaudy's picture

I would like to give a 5 minute update on the the Japan nuclear crisis aid project that I presented at the last meetup. It is still ongoing, and is even more important now, given some recent events.

A Synopsis of the project is given here:

+1 on Fukushima Project

Pistachio Pony's picture

I was sad to have missed the original presentation. I would like to hear the update.

I can also do a quick follow

lisarex's picture

I can also do a quick follow up on the drupal.org content audit, namely, what I've learned about content audits in Drupal!

==================================
http://about.me/lisarex

I've added the Fukushima

orbgasm's picture

I've added the Fukushima relief site update, node.js and the content audit bits. Things should fit nicely in the alotted time, since there are a few long presentations, a couple short ones, a whole bunch of breakouts.

Going to have to miss tonight

casaswing's picture

Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it. Will catch you all next month.
