ok, I have just noticed galooph has setup the DrupalCampUK group. Don't know if they have one planned or just setup the group for fun, but we should have one.

My criteria:
- Must be on a weekend so all can attend.
- Must be in a good location.
- Must have Wi-Fi access.

So where to we go now.

Would love to meet up with some UK Drupal people but I'm in the North East and I'm aware there are very few Drupal developers in this area. Maybe it would be good to have a #drupal-uk IRC channel.

Try #drupaluk [updated]
There's two of us in there right now!

The discussions we had in Szeged led to us thinking of planning two, one in London and one in Manchester.
But that's simply based on the location of the people organising them.
It might be good to start by throwing around a few possible dates. Not sure what Robert Castelo had in mind for the London one.
We were originally thinking of March 2009 for a Manchester one, but that'll be a bit close to DrupalCon.

Well being in South Wales

Well being in South Wales there is not much difference between London or Manchester for me, but Cardiff would be better.

We could hold it at Mark Boulton Design in Cardiff, i'm sure Mark won't mind!

I'd like it to be in south

I'd like it to be in south wales too.I'm from Cardiff. But the difference isn't huge if it's manchester or London.

I'm still new to drupal so it sounds like fun.

Well, ideally I'd like it to be in Brighton, but London would be easy enough for me. Cardiff would be fine too mind.

Can we set up a poll?

hunthunthunt's picture
hunthunthunt - Thu, 2008-09-18 09:47

I am in London but am not too fussed where it takes place.

Shall/can we set up a poll here or elsewhere?

Some suggestions for the poll:

  • London
  • Brighton
  • Bristol
  • Birmingham
  • Manchester

Any other suggestions?

Can we set up a poll?

galooph - Thu, 2008-09-18 10:09

Well, myself and mcjim are in the early stages of planning a Drupalcamp in Manchester. There's a good crowd of people up here and we've got a good network of contacts which we'll be using to help organise things. The Irish contingent have also expressed an interest in a Manchester event.

When we we're talking to Robert Costello over in Szeged, he was thinking of organising a London Drupalcamp. I think one in Manchester and one in London would be great!

poll is a good idea...

...though I predict london will win - unless you exclude it on the basis that if you didn't exclude it, there'd be no point in having the poll. lolz

University venue?

A number of clients/contacts I know who have organised similar events have used a university - they match the requirements Tim mentioned at the beginning of this thread:

  • Must be on a weekend so all can attend. (most universities cater for weekend events since classes are generally on weekdays)
  • Must be in a good location. (with universities in every major UK city this should not be a problem)
  • Must have Wi-Fi access. (again not a problem)

also they have lecture theatres and venues to cater for audiences from 50 to 500 if necessary - and at a far cheaper rate than most hotels.

I have no idea what a 'Drupal camp' is but there is a meetup set for next week in Birmingham. http://groups.drupal.org/node/14929

I'm guessing someone in this thread here hasn't spotted it?

Is a 'camp' an event over several days? Like a conference?

A DrupalCamp can be anything

mcjim's picture

A DrupalCamp can be anything you want to make it!
We're currently looking at a two-day event, with a mixture of organised talks and workshops (like a conference) and plenty of opportunities for unorganised talks (like a BarCamp).

Some thoughts are developing here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/15537, so feel free to jump in and have your say.

I think it would be really good to encourage lots of people new to Drupal to attend, and not just web developers, either, so any suggestions for how to make that happen would be much appreciated. At the same time, we mustn't forget all us Drupalers who wouldn't mind learning a thing or two, so ideas for talks/workshops for the more experienced crowd are needed, too.

DrupalCamp Manchester's being planned

mcjim's picture
mcjim - Mon, 2008-10-20 08:33

We're currently trying to work out a date for DrupalCamp Manchester and also a venue.
We're thinking either February, before DrupalCon, or in April.

People of the world, let us know what you think!
