I'm just going to get the conversation started here...
What patterns (or repeated tasks) would people be interested in seeing for Drupal? Remember, these are [XML-based] instructions that fellow users/developers can share or include with their modules or install profiles.
Here's some quick ideas:
- Developer site patterns
- Quick blog site settings
- Super simple site that has some common pages made with URL aliases like Contact (form or no form), About Us, etc.
- Video module related configurations
- Complete dump of a current site (to make local copies of a site)?
Again, I'm just trying to spark the conversation and this group would like to hear what Pattern(s) you would like to see or make.

Yes please!
The beauty of patterns is that each can be customized to fit the specific needs of a site. So really it depends on what kind of site you want. If it's a band or label site, you'll have patterns to set up each major component (audio/playlists, video, photo gallery, bio, blog, discography, etc.) - a lot of those patterns/components would also work for a video site, photography site, music/arts community site... Similar thing with a local user group site like LADrupal. A lot of our desired features/functionality listed here is similar to the next DrupalDojo (info here) or other sites geared to learning, collaboration, and providing a showcase. Being that we're indeed going to be creating/utilizing patterns for the 'open build' of the DrupalDojo, this might be a great way to learn while creating a lot of value to the project and community.

Are patterns same as installation profiles?
One obvious area would be e-commerce. I need an e-commerce site -- something I normally don't do -- and an hour of research on drupal.org convinced me that I would save a lot of time going with zencart or something similar. There are just so many modules and dependencies of modules to install and the instructions for ubercart are pretty skimpy.
(I wanted to see the video from the ubercart session at LADrupal camp but I know videos not ready yet).
A system that would install all these modules at the same time would be helpful. Even better would be including some sample products in the database.
So is that, for example, what an "e-commerce pattern" would do?
Within half-hour of installing zencart through fantastico, I was already putting in products.
Different from install profiles
Patterns are a bit different from install profiles. They are meant to be able to be run after a site is setup and also for the configuration to be in a format that is easier to read, manage and share. I'll be posting more info this weekend.
An Ubercart e-commerce patterns would be lovely!

patterns
I'd like to see patterns for a quick blog site. It would be great if it could incorporate banner ads...since I'm getting requests for blogs that can accommodate banner ads.
Drupal 6
Is there a Drupal 6 release of Patterns module on the horizon? Did I miss something?
If not, this conversation seems irrelevant. Now that Views, CCK, and CiviCRM are stable for D6, there's no looking back for me, as much as I would love to use some of the sweet automation tools that are finally available for D5, like Patterns, and Autopilot.
Unless you can assure me that D5 patterns will work for D6.... which seems unlikely?

Yes, on the horizon
Yes a Drupal 6 version is in the works and on the horizon. We're shooting for an initial version by the end of the month.

Good ideas Chris
Those are good idea Chris. Some of the ones at the top of my list are:
Administration Improvements
Development helpers/additions (for coders)
Developer build tools extras (good handy stuff for setting up sites - for non coders)
There are obviously a ton more... I'll post a more comprehensive list soon.
