Meet ups 2009

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I have a suggestion for meet ups in 2009
Why don't we just set dates and places in each city that's interested in having a meet.
My suggestion for instance is that we meet every 1st Saturday of every 3rd month at 1PM.
We put those dates on the event calendar and send out reminders. Even if just two people meet up on that day, it is better than nothing.
Then we don't have to run around figuring out who can come or not and when.

And:
As theamoeba suggested. we can have our own South African Druplicon once a year. Next year in Cape town :) To organise something like that, we need to get a bit more active about it and organise it.

what a good idea, but

what a good idea, but perhaps friday afternoons are better, saturdays are sometimes hectic.

Event organiser?

Anybody want to volunteer for event organiser?. We need one central person to organise it (not me, I get sidetracked :) ).

Read the topics under Organizer resources. Very helpful.

Since I'm on the roll here, I'll ramble on. The annual Druplicon (rather call it a Drupal Camp) can be a very nice event if we plan it properly. Maybe get some sponsorship and some Drupal stuff, etc.
And we don't keep it within our groups, we advertise and invite other groups (like the Linux and PHP groups) to join us.

Let's stop just saying "I'm in!" and saying what a good idea it is, etc. And start making concrete plans.
Sorry for the Obama cliché, but start thinking: "Yes, we can!"

Saturday / Sunday is good

I agree for weekends.
My experience is that Saturday afternoon tends to be a good time for group meetings.

Pre-scheduling for the year is a good idea - everybody can then plan around that (It's all about priorities).

I might be able to assist to find a venue for Cape Town.

Dates

I also agree on Saturday. It's much more flexible than any other day.

Shall we do these dates:
7 March 2009
6 June 2009
5 September 2009
5 December 2009
Time and place can be decided before the time. But lets stick to the dates.

These dates are not just for Cape Town, but country wide. Each area have there own meeting.
At the first meeting we can discuss the possibility of our first(?) annual Drupal Camp.

Cape Town

I was at a few meetups in Joburg last year and am about to move to Cape Town: I'll definitely be at whatever meetups are happening there! The Jozi guys had some good guidelines for the meetings: meet, greet, bring some drinks and snacks, and then have someone present on something. I think they were moving towards building stuff and making sure that whatever talks were given were useful.

Cape Town

I am interested in attending any Cape Town based Drupal events

Cant contribute to the organising just yet but may be able to get my company involved in contributing to some of the later events in the year.

Thanks

There's a discussion about that meetup here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/19263

We haven't finalised venue or date, so pitch in and make your voice heard :) We're thinking Mugg n Bean at the Waterfront at 2pm...

Meetup confirmed, May 2nd
