Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself to the rest of the members here. I'm from Minnesota and my fiance is now a grad student at Iowa State. I'm an independent software consultant and unfortunately have no contacts in Ames. I'm interested in networking and finding gigs near Ames.
I've worked on two Dupal projects, but the majority of my work has been Java and .Net based. I had this group recommended as a good place to meet developers in central Iowa. Unless I pick up a client in Minnesota first, I plan to be at the meeting on the 26th. I look forward to meeting people then.
Can anyone recommend other good networking groups in Iowa? What is the market like there for freelancers?
Thanks,
Peter Beacom

Welcome Peter!
I'm glad you will be coming to our next meeting. I was starting to thinking about agenda for our next meeting today. Maybe we can spend some time addressing your questions. I look forward to meeting you and welcome to Ames. I have not been in Ames very long (July 08), maybe some of the other members can help with your questions.

Me too
Hi, I too am a new member to the group and plan to be at the meeting at the end of the month. I met scottatdrake at a Des Moines Web Geeks meeting who told me about some upcoming training. While at the training I met John VanDyk who told me about this group. I live and work in Des Moines but my brother is at ISU so I can use it as an excuse to visit him at the same time.
I'm responsible for maintaining my organization's websites which are drupal based. I'm sure there are better ways to do the things I've been doing so hope to leverage more of Drupal's power in the future.
I'm eager to hear about whatever it is people are discussing. Sadly there's a slight chance I'll be traveling but if I don't make it to the Jan meeting I'll be at the Feb one.

Making things easier
I'm getting ready to migrate from D5 to D6. I like to delegate a lot of the content management to the people in the various departments but right now my users find it a real chore and I spend a significant amount of time helping them. Therefore with the move to D6 I'd like to implement changes that will make it as simple as possible for the users to create and manage content. Right now I'm testing the upgrade process but soon I'll be working on the workflow changes.
Someone suggested using the workflow, revision moderation and diff modules to make this easier. During about a 5 min conversation he quickly showed me his setup using these modules and it looked about like what I needed. Currently my users upload their content to a staging server for approval from their boss, then they have to repeat the process on the live server. If someone has this type of configuration in place I'd love to learn more about it. I'm happy to learn from trial and error but if someone has already done that part I'd love to learn from them.
Also I'm looking for ways to improve image management. My users upload images through imce/tinymce. I'm curious how other people do it.
