November Upper Valley meetup?

Any interest in a November Upper Valley meetup? I have not yet seen an announcement from Christina...

Attendance has fallen over the last couple of months. Any suggestions for improving the meetups (format, content, etc.) would be welcome.

good question

Heh, it looks like I'm finally going to be in town at the right time for one, so we better have one :)

If I do wind up being in town, I'm sure I can find an interesting topic to present on. I'm working on a couple presentations right now that I could go over. One in particular is on writing better SQL in your modules. I'm sure I could give a short presentation on that.

Thanks for the reminder

Thanks for the reminder, you guys -- I just emailed Justin to see if the room is available for Nov 30.

Chris, it would be nice to meet you, finally, if you're in town. And great if you'd be willing to give a presentation!

I'd love to hear a

I'd love to hear a presentation on better SQL. A couple of ideas that have been on my mind for ways to mix things up:

Lightning talks - multiple presenters sign up in advance for a 5-10 minute session followed by a quick Q&A.

Do it with Drupal type presentations - take a site that exists and try to replicate it using Drupal (or maybe just parts of it for our purposes), then explain how it can be done. While this would take some extra work on the presenter's part, it's really informative to see how you can implement some flashy features, and it gives presenters a chance to step out of the box of the stuff they normally work on.

Welcome to Drupal roundtable - pick a topic of interest beyond the Drupal community (SEO for example, or content syndication), have a quick presentation on how Drupal fits in, and open things up for questions to the group. This would probably be better attended if we have a chance to notify people outside of the Drupal community in advance. I also don't know what kind of web professionals are in the area.

Great suggestions

All good suggestions - I like the lightning talks idea for its easy implementation. A variation on that: A session at each meeting where we go around the table, and each person briefly talks about one cool thing they've encountered, or one problem they ran into - borrowed from the Manchester meetup ;-).

Mix up the location?

There are quite a few folks working with Drupal in Montpelier and Burlington areas- it might be nice to have meet ups in other locations to attract more participants. Would folks be interested in rotating the location in the future? Tag and Triangulus have hosted in Burlington, Bear Code and Vermont College have hosted in Montpelier.

Up for it

I'm up for reaching out to the VT folks - maybe Montpellier first, as that is halfway between Burlington and the UV?

Just let me know when and where

Hi all,

Working in Pawlet (just north of Manchester VT) is beautiful, but equally inconvenient to just about everywhere. No matter -- I'll be happy to make the trip and catch up.

I'm starting work on a new project and may need some subcontractors, so if anyone is interested in independent dev work (Drupal7), just let me know.

I'm in the same boat as Dave.

I'm in the same boat as Dave. I live near Rutland so travelling after work during the week isn't really an option. I might be able to find some space where I work to host a meetup if anyone is interested.

Meetup Nov 30

Hey all,

The usual meeting place is squared away, so I just posted the event: http://groups.drupal.org/node/191568

I'm definitely open to holding the event in other places (welcome, fellow Vermonters!), so how about we meet in Lebanon as usual this month, and then think about another locale next time?

I do like the idea of lightning talks -- let's plan on that for this month.

As for attracting non-Drupal folks: There is a mailing list for the Upper Valley Professional Web Authors (http://four.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/wa , for anyone who's interested in joining), and I try to remember to announce our meetups on that. A work colleague (and fellow Drupal enthusiast) and I asked the organizer of the local Linux Users Group if they'd be interested in a presentation on Drupal for one of their meetups in the hopes of piquing interest and attracting their folks to our meetup. But the organizer of that group never got back to us.

Does anyone have any ideas of other groups we might reach out to?
