Event type:
User group meeting

As many of you know, the High Performance Drupal meetup we started 9 months ago is looking for a larger venue. After bouncing around Westside venues for a while, we've hunkered down at the Venice Grind coffeeshop, made it a regular, monthly meetup and put a call out for help with finding a new venue.

Gavin from the Downtown LA Drupal meetup last week has invited us to check out his space at Filter Digital in Culver City as a possible venue. Would anyone like to go there for a site visit tomorrow at 1pm?

In the tradition of other site visits that we've gone on, this visit to open to anyone interested in helping with our upcoming events!

Christefano, Oliver and I met with Gavin Burnett of Filter (filterdigital.com) and looked over the space. Gavin said top management is enthusiastic about supporting our kinds of activities and the digital media community, and he's going to be presenting the details we discussed, tomorrow, to get the final approval of our meeting there -- and possible sponsorship support.

The space looks good to accommodate up to forty or fifty for single presentations, and has convenient arrangements for breaking out into a number of smaller, separate groups as well. It also faces a large covered outside area usable for even larger events when evening temperatures permit.

There is ample parking in two sizable lots and venues for "after-dark" food and drink within short driving distance (but probably not easy walking).

The space is available any time after about 5:30 in the evening, so it'd be possible to schedule planning meetings, etc., prior to the usual "users helping users" session and the main meetings. The atmosphere seems pleasant, flexible, laid-back and accommodating. All-in-all, very promising, to my view. I think the contacts between our organization and Filter can be valuable in both directions, in addition to how convenient the space can be for our meetings.

Excellent summary of today's site visit

Hi John,

Thanks for joining us today and for writing this up.

Only things I have to add is that we'll need to provide chairs, a projector and a screen. The large room can be configured to accommodate our group, but there isn't really wall space or an existing screen for us to use. We'll need to arrive early to arrange the space a bit, and make sure it's back to normal when we leave.

Thanks to Gavin for suggesting Filter as a venue and for taking the time to show us around today.
