Drupal Camp LA 2012 planning (wiki)

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
You are viewing a wiki page. You are welcome to join the group and then edit it. Be bold!

Please see the announcement for DCLA 2012: http://groups.drupal.org/node/213818

How can I help?

This is a community-driven event, and participation from everyone is welcome. On the event website we have a section that explains how to help by choosing "volunteer sessions" during the event: http://2012.drupalcampla.com/information/volunteers

If you have new ideas for DrupalCamp LA, or comments about things you liked (or disliked) in prior years, let us know in a comment below... or add your ideas to this wiki.

Communication

  • Realtime: on IRC: #dcla-planning
  • Asynchronous: add to this wiki or post a comment below.

Please keep in mind that, like Drupal, DCLA is volunteer run. If you have a suggestion, please consider volunteering your time to make your suggestion reality. If you have questions or concerns about how to execute an idea... ask for help.

More Details

This section is about the specific ways you can help.

  • Code: Help with improving or upgrading DCLA website. You will need to join us on IRC (details above).
  • Content: Help us make the content clear and the directions easy.
  • Evangelizing: Help us reach-out to the local community and beyond. Other communities. Businesses.
  • Sessions: Share your great ideas.
  • Setup/Admin/Teardown: During the camp we need volunteers to help "run the show," answer questions, and help make things run smoothly.

Stauffer New Media Development would like donate the site theme design for the 2012 camp site. We already have a concept in pre-design and can move forward full-steam as soon as desired.

Stauffer New Media Development is a premier ACQUIA SILVER PARTNER & RESELLER in Los Angeles, and was the Platinum Sponsor at DrupalCamp LA 2011.

Themes for our local Drupal Camps

Chris Charlton's picture

Quick update: There were two theme designs donated to DrupalCamp LA for use on this year's site (design submissions provided by http://stauffer.com & http://wearelanding.com).

For DrupalCamp LA 2012 (July) we will be going with the nice theme design submitted by: http://wearelanding.com

Stauffer.com will be offering/donating the alternate theme design to our other local camp, Drupal Design Camp LA 2012 (est. May).

Thank you to all the volunteers who have been a part of this.

More collaboration

Hey Chris,

This sounds great and is a pretty sweet offer from Stauffer. I don't want to detract from the fact that Stauffer has been a huge supporter over the past few years, but from my own perspective I will say that it feels a little corporate and less community when the camp site is a contributed one. Have any options been discussed to include community members on the project? Is @bvirtual's suggestion of the time crunch pushing you to make this suggestion?

I know you are having a conversation about it in IRC, so I will wait to hear the resolution, but I thought it would be good to express a different view on this.

Theme Collaboration

Chris Charlton's picture

Yes, being a part of the IRC chat helped spark a phone call between myself + Mike Stewart (produced last year's theme; mediadoneright.com) + Mike Landing (wearelanding.com), to all be a part of the theme work and make sure there's no single volunteer/resource on this so we get this out in a timely fashion. It was the use of IRC that got us planning together.

This By Them

jromine's picture

This by Them contributed the theme for the DrupalCamp LA 2009, 2010 and 2011 websites. In fact the 2009 site was built by Blake Lucchesi (of This by Them).

DrupalCamp 2009 Case Study

jromine's picture

There was a case study done on the 2009 DrupalCamp LA site posted at http://drupal.org/node/519100 for anyone who's interested. It really helps to explain the design goals for the site. The case study was presented at the camp, and the screencast is available at http://replay.uci.edu/public/summer2009/DxLA/.

I can help. Probably most useful at content editing right now.

Sounds great! We're really

Sounds great! We're really close to launch, but please join us on IRC (#dcla-planning as mentioned in the wiki above). The channel is usually busiest during 9-5 office hours -- but its pure volunteer -- so evenings/weekends are more intermittent.

If you need help with IRC, checkout the section Ways to Connect on the LA Drupal front page: http://groups.drupal.org/la
