Mark your calendars for DrupalCamp LA 2012, the weekend of July 28-29, 2012.

What is a DrupalCamp?

DrupalCamp LA is the annual FREE unconference-style Drupal training, founded in the style of BarCamp, for the Drupal community in Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Greater Southern California Area.

We'll have a lot of very smart people in a small space who have all come with something to share and a desire to learn. Since this is a free+cheap event and on a weekend, we also get to welcome folks who can't usually take the time or money to go to commercial conferences - so it's a lot of fun with fresh faces. All levels from beginner to ninja are welcome.

Since this is a free event and entirely volunteer run (and no, this is not our day job), we also expect active participation from everyone when it comes to running the conference. Please feel welcome to take an active role in making this a great event. We set the stage, but all of you make this happen!

Where's this going to be?

Only local images are allowed.DrupalCamp LA 2012 will be held in the conference center on the campus of the University of California, Irvine.

Current plans are to have five tracks with extra rooms on the side for community gatherings (BoFs) and code sprints. Large rooms seat 200+ people, smaller rooms up to 70, and BoF rooms hold 24 attendees with laptops. There is ample space in the conference center for lounging and discussions (with nearby outlets for laptop charging).

Sessions and Topics

In true BarCamp form, our sessions are proposed by community volunteers, so start thinking about what you'd like to present. We'll have an event website up soon where you can sign up, and post your sessions. We'd like to have a dedicated beginner track, so sessions for people new to Drupal are especially welcome.

Drupal after Dark

Only local images are allowed. We're planning a Drupal after Dark party on Saturday night at the Anthill Pub on campus.

How can I help?

This is a community-driven event, and participation from everyone is welcome. If you have new ideas for DrupalCamp LA, or comments about things you liked (or disliked) in prior years, let us know in a comment.

Hope to see you in July!

My past experience is websites need to be "ready", go live, at least TWO MONTHS AHEAD OF THE EVENT.

Preferably 4 months.

That means end of March, this month. We have 4 weeks for best effects, imho.

I'd like to get a copy of the site and database, and I will clean it of passwords, signed up users, whatever, and make the new database available, with the theme updated with the new year, and new date.

That done, volunteers can be found to "re-theme" the colors, etc.

Why am I posting this now? I recall last year's barn raising for the 2010 site. I think John need a break.

Droplabs is happy to be a venue — if one is needed — for a DrupalCamp LA 2012 website code sprint / barn raising.

If you'e interested in volunteering your time, please join us on IRC in #dcla-planning or add to the DCLA Planning Wiki: http://groups.drupal.org/node/214298

We'll need all sorts of help ... mostly during the camp itself ... but also people to execute some ideas to make it happen. Join the discussion, or clear your schedule that weekend for a fabulous time!

DrupalCamp LA 2012 Site Launched!

jromine's picture

The http://2012.drupalcampla.com site is now live, and accepting registrations and session proposals. The site was built from scratch on Drupal 7 in about four weeks on Acquia cloud hosting (thanks for setting the timeline, bvirtual).

Kudos to the entire DrupalCamp LA team of developers who made this happen.

Please spread the word &/or volunteer

In addition to helping us spread the word (blog, facebook, tweet #drupalcamp LA http://DrupalCampLA.com) we still need volunteers. And of course we need community to come share. Either by adding a session or registering on the site and choosing the sessions you'll attend.

To volunteer, please see my comment above
