Mayday! Drupal work session coming to Sunnyvale's Coffee and More. If you are working on projects? Want a break from the forums and IRC and want to bounce ideas off of real people, share your knowledge with, or just have people to work around? Join us! This is not the typical meet-up format with a presentation, but you can still met people who work with Drupal, have a drink, socialize and get some work done.
We will be at Coffee and More in downtown Sunnyvale(right across the street from caltrain). Plenty of large tables and free open wi-fi. Please use comment thread to initiate questions, intent, etc. so we can meet in person and get down to business. We would like to make this a regular (weekly/bi-weekly) work day event in our local community, and the start time is simply when the organizers are going to meet, so feel free to plan otherwise with people.
Bonus: the "more" in Coffee and More means beer and wine and food! after all we will be finishing up the week!

AWESOME idea

socialnicheguru's picture

This is an awesome idea.

I have lots of issues.

  1. Bounty to fix exposed filter block in panel3 pages and organic group tabs for D6 (http://drupal.org/node/445446)
  2. taking a look at dimdim integration
  3. theme nice menus- http://drupal.org/node/417498
  4. content profile and pageroute in D6 don't seem to be working well together- http://drupal.org/node/440044

Chris

I'm not sure if I can come on May 1, but I love this idea, live and work on the Peninsula, and would come to a future work session!

Theming:

  • tabs
  • views, specifically a slideshow

I'm also in the process of moving my site to A2 hosting and have been researching hosting providers for a while and can help out with people getting new sites up from a localhost to a hosting provider.

I'm also helping build an alumni site.

See you all this afternoon

Looking forward to today's work session at Coffee & More. I'm thinking of signing into #drupal-bayarea IRC during our session so we can get a virtual office hours thing going too...

Drupal Work Session Recap

happysnowmantech's picture

So, this meetup happened and I found it quite helpful. We threw around ideas about tab theming, the Wellstone case study at http://drupal.org/node/413910 , Drupal 6 upgrade, menu theming, blog layout, and other stuff. tandonian is going to set up another one in the coming weeks - I hope more folks will join us!

Always a productive time

tandonian's picture

I am always amazed at how productive an in person work session can be. We are going to continue to try and meet at coffee and more about every other week. We think that it is great to begin to gain visibility in our community and at the same time we have found it really helpful to bring questions of things we have been working on and brain storm in person. We thought that maybe more people would come if it was in the middle of the week and not on a friday, so next time would be sometime during the week of May 19-21ish.
join us, or share some thoughts here!

Is this still alive

Hi everyone,

Noticed that there are no user groups in bay area, other than this one. Closest ones are in SFO or Santa Cruz. I am interested in having more work sessions. Gauging the interest from everyone.
What do you think? We can have one in Palo Alto or Sunnyvale

Manish

Yes, I'm interested

MichaelCole's picture

Hi Mahish, yes, I'd be interested.

We just did a code sprint in Berkeley at BadCamp. This was more for Drupal, instead of our own projects.

You might find people here who are interested: http://www.meetup.com/DrupalGroup/calendar/past_list/

It's a dead meetup of South Bay Drupalers (no meetups planned, and havn't met in awhile).

Local working group meetings

Feel free to post local events in the Calendar. One of the advantages of a group for a big geographic area is that people will travel distances to attend a particularly topical session.

Kieran

Will do

Hi Kieran,

Thanks for the suggestion. BTW, your name was mentioned several times at BAD camp as someone, we should hit on to invite to our meetings.

Group Change?

mjh2901's picture

I am hoping whoever was an organizer for the south bay emails me. But I am thinking its a dead group. Good idea, good group of people, hard to get together or maybe with the way companies and jobs apear and dissapear one of the organizers wound up unable to continue.

I checked with the powers that be and I have a space to use with some restrictions. I work for a school district and I can book a classroom on certain evenings, rooms have sound and projector, however we have to follow california state law / ed code which means no beer. I am going to go look at the south bay group and the drupal groups and come up with a plan. I will report back here then maybe as a group we can restart the Bay Area Drupal group as the Silicon Valley Drupal User Group. (Bay Area and Berkeley seem to always wind up with very similar acronyms and confusion I know it got me.)

Great

Thanks. Yes, we should ping the defunct Meetup group as well. No Beer should not be a show stopper. Let's start with that. I will also try to get a place in Palo Alto.

I'm interested too

happysnowmantech's picture

I'm interested for South Bay Drupal meetups too. tandonian and I did a couple of Drupal get-togethers earlier this spring, but didn't get it rolling into something more regular.

Mike - I just emailed Avi who is the South Bay Drupal Meetup organizer and cc'd you. Perhaps you can collaborate somehow...

Also, for those who are over the hill (geographically speaking :-) there is a Drupal group in Santa Cruz: http://groups.drupal.org/santa-cruz

South Bay Drupal Meetup

TruDru's picture

Hi Mike and Katheryn ,

Thanks for sending the link to this thread.
Some of us were already planning to have our next meetup on Semantic Web/RDF/Solr with DRUPAL.

We used to have these meetups at our office conference room at Halosys and were fairly well attended.
Since the office moved to a new location, we hit some logistics issues.

In any case lets collaborate on getting regular meetups arranged.
I propose a quick list of "Topics of Interest" for the next few meetups.

Manish, when you look for a place, please note that we have had around 45+ attendees in at least couple meetups.

Cross Schedule the next Drupal Meet

mjh2901's picture

I am going to schedule the next Drupal Meet this evening in both the Bay Area and South bay groups. It will be the second Thursday of November, based on checking with a bunch of other groups so there is no conflict with SF, Berkeley or Santa Cruz. I am still confused over the two groups thing, I am hoping I can get with organizers from both and get this all hashed out into one big vibrant group. This will be cross posted on the other group site.

Hi Friends,

With millions of iPhones in the hands of people, it's hard to ignore it as a channel.

Whether you run a Social Networking site, Community site, a Publishing platform, an Events heavy site or any site utilizing Drupal, Mobile friendliness has to be a part of the strategy.

While Mobile browsers are universal, the experience of the Application cannot be compared.

Join this session for an interactive discussion on

  • How to make the site content ready for an iPhone App
  • Optimizing DRUPAL Modules for iPhone
  • Challenges involved in getting an iPhone App communicate with the DRUPAL site
  • Making your site Mobile Friendly
  • Tips to mock up an iPhone App

We are going to have a few technology showcases, so please feel free to contact me if you would like to present your DRUPAL site that is mobile friendly.

When : 19th November , 2009 5:00 pm (PST)

Where:

Halosys Technologies Inc
