D2E: Drupalese to English series kickoff

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

At the May meetup, I did a lightning talk to suggest and gauge interest in a lightning talk series dedicated to translating Drupal terms and concepts into language non-Drupal folks can understand--evaluators, project owners, business side, new Drupalers, non-Drupal devs and sysadmins, etc.

If you weren't there, the idea is to take a term or concept each month--suggested by you all--and put together an easy-to-understand explanation. This explanation may include written copy, diagrams or illustrations, brief demonstration and/or a handful of generic-style slides that can be dropped into a deck.

The intent of all this is to provide a set of materials we can grab and use to explain those things we are frequently breaking down for the people we are communicating with. Examples - "blocks," "nodes," "entities," "theming," "caching," etc.

I'll present the explanation as a lightning talk, noting assumptions like audience and existing knowledge, then hold a BoF in the lobby area to talk about corrections, refinements, and other questions or suggestions. After considering and incorporating feedback, the materials will be posted somewhere (TBD) to be used freely--blog posts, presentations, documentation, etc.

I won't be in town for the June meetup, so the first of these would happen in July.

So...to get things started, tell me: for which Drupal terms or concepts do you wish you had content you could just pull out of your pocket and show people?

Node

Node is always the first concept I explain to people when I'm introducing them to Drupal.
