Just wondering, I'm thinking of converting an alumni site to be Drupal based, but I noticed one of the example sites, crateralumni.com is heavily spammed. This would be one of my main concerns about switching. Is this common, and what possible solutions are available?
Thanks,
Brian
Taking Over Existing Alumni Website & Best Beginner Documentation
I've been recently hired by a Public High School in downtown Boston and after displaying some level of technical proficiency, the school has decided to make me their official Drupal person with the first project being to overhaul the existing Alumni Website. I have never worked with a CMS and have made it clear to them that this is something I will have to learn...
yahoo groups like mail posting functionality
How can we get yahoo groups sort of functionality with drupal? - mainly when a user posts something using his mail id it shld get posted onto the site moderation queue .... how can we achieve this functionality? once approved by the moderator it shld be sent to the goup members ... ny clues???
Site for Simon Kenton HS/Alumni
The past few months I set out to build my first major Drupal project, and this is the result. It's a site that will be used for alumni and current students of Simon Kenton High School in Independence, Kentucky. We expect possibly over 3000 users as last forum site used had about 2500.
The one thing that really makes me happy is how much the users appreciate what has been done. I'm still working to improve some parts of it, as I my skills have improved since I started the site (over 4 months ago) and there are some parts I did back then.
Site can be seen here: http://www.simonkenton.org
St. Stanislaus Ex-students Association
We are using Drupal 4.7.0 for our Alumni website www.stanislites.org. We also use civicrm for contributions and member management. Of course our Registration page is ugly with Organic Groups and Civicrm groups..till we find a better way to get og and civicrm to speak with each other
University Student Organizations Group
Hi there! I just launched the University Student Organizations group. The groups seem related and I thought there might be some overlapping interest. I'll probably have a good deal of interest in running alumni websites when I graduate from college in two years!
How to create an Alumni directory
I have been involved with creating several Drupal-based alumni websites. One of the most requested feature, by clients, is an alumni directory; a tabular listing of all registered alumni with links to the alumni's profile(s).
Below is a basic how to implemented an alumni directory using contributed modules. This howto is based on Drupal 5.x, however, you can use the same approach with Drupal 4.7.x.
I hope this is helpful for others who are building Drupal-based alumni websites.
Handling Roles and classes
I´ve posted at the Drupal Forum a certain problem that I have, and I would like to know if anyone of you have ever have this kind of issue in the past. And if you have, please give me a clue about how to solve this :-)
I´m running a site (of an NGO) that gives all their users free access to articles and information of a certain area. People do not need to registrate.
Drupal Distributions Profiles Group is nice, but what about an entire Drupal Distributions website?
(Reposting from my comment on Dries blog post about Drupal Distributions.)
The Drupal Distribution Profiles group is nice, but what about creating an entire Drupal Distributions website?
DrupalAlum - Drupal distribution for Alumni site
The goals of this page is to describe the configuration of a drupal distribution (or multiple distributions) for an alumni website.

Objectives of Alumni Group
I suppose it would be a good idea to work out some objectives for this group. So, here's something to start with. Look forward to other suggestions and improvements.
- Gather links to good examples of drupal-based alumni web sites
- Document, develop and share best practices on how to run an alumni website (perhaps, even on how to to run an alumni association/organization?!)
- Create "DrupalAlumni" - a drupal distribution specifically for setting up an alumni web site
- And of course, to network and socialize with like-mind cyber citizens
Anything else? Don't be bashful!
Some useful links
Maybe having a list of links related to this group´s target would be useful:
