2nd Annual(?) Drupal Meetup Summit

When: Saturday, July 21, from noon to 7pm
Where: The Barley House, 132 North Main Concord, NH 03301

Directions: http://himer.us/barley-house
Website: http://www.thebarleyhouse.com
Foursquare: http://foursquare.com/venue/252739

Primary Topic

We've finally narrowed down to (hopefully) the best available date for our second NH Meetup Summit.

The main reason for this mega-meetup is to provide an opportunity for Drupal users across New Hampshire—from the four regional meetup groups to all you outliers—to get together and get to know each other better.

If anyone has any specific ideas for agenda, please post here. Otherwise, the day will be a chance to share ideas, concerns regarding the status and direction of the NH user community. We'd also like to begin planning for the 2012 DrupalCampNH.

Food & Beverage

We'll be meeting in the same room at the The Barley House where we met last year. There is money left over from the 2011 DrupalCampNH to cover the cost of the room.

We'll also have our own dedicated server to keep the food and drink flowing, and they have a great menu—including vegetarian fare. However, if we number more than 20 people, we'll need to work of a set Function Room menu. SO please sign up early so that we can plan accordingly.

We have the room from noon to 7pm. But will plan to "meet" between 1pm and 4:30-5pm. After that we can continue to just hang out and socialize more. After 7, we may need to share the space, or move upstairs.

I think that everyone that attended last year will agree that it was a great event. Very relaxed with plenty of time to kick back, enjoy good food, drink, and the company of a great group of people.

Signup for the Event

Please use the "Signup" option for this event, so that we may have a semi-accurate idea of how many plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Yay!

TYPO alert! The date IS Saturday, July 21

rggoode's picture

There was a typo in the body of the original event post--a little sloppy editing on my part, as I'd picked up some of the links and copy from last years event.

But since the notice was broadcast before the error was caught (Thank you, Michelle), I wanted to just make sure that there was no confusion.

I had left the original date of May 7 from last year at the top of the message (whoopsie). The actual date IS Saturday, JULY 21.

I hope you all can make it.

Now I'm gonna go wipe the egg off my face.

Roger

Just a quick reminder… The

Just a quick reminder… The 2012 Drupal Meetup Summit is scheduled for Saturday, July 21, from noon to 7pm, at the Barley House, 132 North Main Concord.

This will be a fun, casual get-together and an opportunity for members of the four regional Meetup Groups to get to know each other better and swap hilarious "hook_form_alter" stories.

We need to be able to provide a head count for the room at least 2 weeks before the event (by July 7), so the Barley House can make appropriate preparations. So if you haven't signed up already, please come here to http://groups.drupal.org/node/233708 and join the party.

Roger

Good News and Bad News...

rggoode's picture

For everyone attending the Summit next week...

I just learned that next weekend is "Market Days" in Concord. What that means is that they will be having special events, music, and booths of all kinds all up and down Main Street.

So the good news is... there will be extra stuff you can do while you're in Concord that day if you arrive early or leave the summit early.

The bad news is... Main Street (where the Barley House is) will be closed to traffic all day. So parking will be something of a challenge.

Your best bet will be to look for a spot on one of the side streets back behind the capital building, across the street from the Barley House. Even then, depending on the crowds, you may need to plan on hiking a few blocks.

Fortunately, there will be cold beer and other libations awaiting you when you arrive.

See you there.

Roger

Power to the Laptops

rggoode's picture

Just a thought for those attending the NH Drupal Summit tomorrow, and are planning on bringing laptops. Last year we had a bit of a scramble to come up with extension cords for people to plugging around the room.

If anyone has a spare extension cord--preferably with multiple outlets--you might consider bring it along, just in case.

Hi, all. I enjoyed seeing all you at the summit on Saturday. Here are my notes.... a disclaimer that I took them for my benefit so if anything is unclear, misspelled, or if I misinterpreted anything you said feel free to clarify with a comment.

DRUPAL CAMP NH:

The tentative date for the camp will be March in Manchester

Video was a challenge last year that will need to be addressed

We will definitely stick with a main single-day Saturday camp. Other ideas included adding a Friday workshop (with a sponsor providing a paid, day-long workshop), a coworking experience on Friday, a code sprint on Friday, a code sprint or coding for a cause on Sunday. One idea would be to have Phase 1 of coding for a cause happen before camp with a call for proposals. This would help insure that we have buy-in from the organizations. Maybe there are multiple winners and some get a Drupal gardens site, whereas the winner would get a custom website.

Tags rather than tracks.

Perhaps a nominal fee, but only if there is a value-added to it (T-shirt, etc.) Another idea would be to create a bundle that includes a DA membership.

Keynote doesn't have to be Drupal. It can be from open source community or web in general. Scott Jeal (sp?), Jeffrey Zeldman, John Resnik (sp?), and one of the keynote speakers from DrupalCon Chicago.

One good resource for camp planning is from Drupal Camp Florida: http://drupal.org/node/755498

MEETUPS:

Manchester will start following the Drupal Ladder, which is a way to walk-through the steps for contributing to the community as a group. The Manchester meetup is always the second Thursday every month.

If groups need funds, contact Jake because there are some NH Drupal funds still available.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Congrats to Web Meadow for launching the new flymanchester.com.

We will have a g.d.o post about the NH camp in the next couple of weeks asking for volunteers, etc. And G+ hangout to coordinate specific volunteer responsibilities soon thereafter.

There will be a NH Drupal BBQ on Saturday 25 Aug 2012 at Miles Smith Farm. The event is BYOB, but food will be provided. For details, go here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/243993
