Tokyo & Kansai Group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

All my relatives are from Kansai. My parents are from Uji (宇治) and Fushimi (伏見). Both my grandmothers were originally from Osaka. And I know there are a lot more Drupal users in Kansai as well.

In order to accelerate my learning experience (mainly, and maybe self-centered..) and to find out what its like to have admin access to a Drupal group page, and in the interest to create an atmosphere where more Drupal Japanese groups may appear, I would like to start a Kansai group. If it was all just simple php, it would pose no problem for me in administrating, but since I'm a Drupal newbie it may take some time to come up with a decent page. Considering the state of Drupal in Japan, and also what Drupal is about, I don't think I starting a Kansai group would really be a problem, but you can let me know if you think it's a bad idea.

And as far as what the group may do, is actually all up for grabs.

Is anyone interested in sharing admin access with me for another Japanese Drupal Group?

2 Groups Started

I started 2 more Drupal Japan groups.

The Tokyo Group, and the Kansai Group.

The Tokyo Group will be a workshop based group, intended to meet up regularly on weeks when the Japan group is not meeting, and there will be a labs team for advanced Drupal users. The general idea is focused studying in groups of 4-5, on a regular casual basis. Presentation, Q&A meeting formats for beginners, and workshops for people who are tired of answering questions about views and CCK.

The Kansai Group will initially focus on providing a lot of useful information in Japanese. I intend to localize the heck out of every material I find, basics and advanced, but not the api or modules. The general idea would be a Drupal Knowledge Base in Japanese.

Both groups will regularly link to information at the Japan group, where ever appropriate. And will be totally open to suggestions by other members. These groups are meant to compliment the activities of the Japan group and not the other way around.

All in all, personally I intend to get a lot out of these activities. I actually recommend starting a group for any Drupal beginner, the experience is great although I'm stuck on Taxonomy and categories. It might take a while before I get the pages organized, I'll post back with an update when that time comes.

Best regards,

Scott

I got permission from the Drupal Dojo group to localize their material at the Kansai group page.
Drupal Dojo グループからコンテンツをローカライズする許可がもらえました。

As noted, the Kansai Group I am about to start will be focused on building a Drupal knowledge base in Japanese.
現在私が作ろうとしてるKansaiグループはDrupal日本語ノレッジベースを作る目標を立てており、DrupalDojoの情報を日本で提供できることは良い事だと思います(万歳!)。

僕自身は Drupal Dojo

I myself have not played with Drupal Dojo, but my understanding of it is that it is filled with very valuable info for people to learn about Drupal. It will have a huge influence on the spread of Drupal in Japan that the contents of Dojo is translated into Japanese. Great job, Scott!
