Ubercart
If Shaun is going to be at the next meetup, I'd be thrilled if he could finally introduce Ubercart to us. Specifically what I'd like to know is how it compares to Zencart for example it integrates better with Drupal, what's immediately available after installation of the module, and how the data integrates with Drupal.
And maybe some views on status of UC in Japan. Is it ready?
p.s. If I remember correct we've been postponing this for months.
Sorry
Presentations
Has anyone thought about maybe doing work groups? Come together, come up with different ideas, and then try and do that idea in a set time. Small groups of like 3 or 4, instead of presentations.
I don't have the time to setup a presentation on Ubercart, I am working on it, taking a break from it right now, but I don't really have the time to setup anything formal.
@Fuji, if you want, you should load them both up. Zen-Cart works independent of itself. Right now I love them both. Zen-Cart actually works faster out of the box, and for people who don't know much about Drupal, then Ubercart will be hard for them as you have to learn two systems. If you are used to working inside of Drupal, then Ubercart can be nice in a lot of ways. They are both ugly ducks out of the box.
I am not sure I can even show for the next event, but I wouldn't be against working on something like I talked about, but presentations on things like ddblock, I already know this stuff, and for me, that's a day gone, and Saturday is one of my work days.
I don't think I have ever postponed it, its more of, I am not at the place to present on it.
Anyways, I think getting your hands dirty and playing with things teaches everyone faster anyways.
Regards,
Shaun
Group work
I am also for small group, interest based, work sessions. I personally want to give a hit at context/spaces/features modules + some drush TLC. I would also like to share ideas on what could be a good versioning workflow with Drupal.
The idea is to bring our tools (laptops, ipod <-hey it's good for you Shin!, books?, pen and paper (some of us still use those from time to time) ) and then just set in small groups and tackle ideas/problems and help each other speed up our learning.
We could keep the first 30〜60minutes for new members presentation, announcements, mini-presentation(?)
I'm so joining your group
Hey, I would love to go over this stuff!
Agree
Antoine, sounds really interesting. No disagreements with your comment above. I'll stick around your group.
That been said, I'd like to make a point that if Antoine didn't announce what he wanted to discuss as a small group, we would have never known what was going to be discussed. Does anyone see a point in why I'm mentioning this, because this is a fresh angle.
The problem
I can see a slight problem if we based this entirely on work groups style, and I think we already do have the 2 version kinds of meetings, or could do it that way anyway (we just need to get into small groups after the presentations, which we already do).
What we seem to be calling for is a more organized small groups sessions.
Well.. first who's gonna plan that? it's way easier to find presentation topics, and we seem to find it hard to find two topics, which we're trying to standardize and failing. (but we're running out of presentations, and we started off as work groups style anyway and added the presentations later)
Second, if we randomly just sit down into small groups, it's great if one just happens to be at the right place at the right time but surely, especially the novices are going to miss things they want to hear left and right.
A group format that includes the majority being novices, presentation Q&A style is the preferred way. For the people passed CCK&Views I don't see why the work group sessions would be any different, noone's telling us not to do it, we're just not officially allocating time for it. unofficially we already do this..
All in all any way is fine, I'm not gonna argue with this, I just don't see if anything new was being suggested by discussing the entire group gathering format which we're kind of trying to forge. We're settling with 2-3 presentations, and free discussions later. Suggesting we drop the presentations is like blowing a hole in what we're kind of being inching towards to without clear leadership which is easy.
Shaun, are you suggesting we ditch the presentation format altogether? And for reference are you talking about planned discussions in work groups or random? You just want time allocated for work groups in the end correct?

Views
