When: Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 1pm to 7pm
Where: The Barley House, 132 North Main Concord, NH 03301

Yes, that’s right… I said 1st bi-annual NH Drupal Summit. We’ve talked about doing this more often, and now we have good reason:

Primary Topic

2013 DrupalCampNH needs an executive committee to form and make plans for the event to happen. We need someone to step into the oversize shoes of those who have gone before and organized such successful camps in the past few years. And we need volunteers to help them get everything done.

And since it’s a New Hampshire event, it would be great if we had representation from the four regional meetup groups to take a hand in organizing.

This will also be an opportunity to kick around ideas for the camp in a relaxed, informal setting, so that our volunteer committee members have some direction to get them started.

And of course, it’s always a great time to get together, toss back a few beers, and get to know each other better.

Food & Beverage

We'll be meeting in the same room at the The Barley House where we met last year. There is still money left over from the 2011 DrupalCampNH to cover the cost of the room.

We'll also have our own dedicated server to keep the food and drink flowing, and they have a great menu—including vegetarian fare. However, if we number more than 20 people, we'll need to pre-order from a standard Function Room menu. So please sign up early so that we can plan accordingly.

We have the room from 1pm to 7pm. But will plan to "meet" between 1pm and 4:30-5pm. After that we can continue to just hang out and socialize more. After 7, we may need to share the space, or move upstairs.

I think that everyone that attended the last few times will agree that it was a great event. Very relaxed with plenty of time to kick back, enjoy good food, drink, and the company of a great group of people.

Signup for the Event

Please use the "Signup" option for this event, so that we may have a semi-accurate idea of how many plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you all there!

See you there!

Thanks so much for organizing, Roger.

Not sure I can make the Camp

BruceDawson's picture

But I'll try to help at the summit - there's just too much "farm stuff" happening in May.

Don't count yourself out

rggoode's picture

Don't count yourself out yet... At this point, everything regarding the camp is up for grabs... Including the date.

Thanks for spearheading this, Roger, I'll see you there!

Twice a year or every other year?

MBR's picture

"Biannual" has two different definitions. It can mean either "twice a year" or "every two years".

If "twice a year" is your intended meaning, "semiannual" is unambiguous.

Thank you for the

rggoode's picture

Thank you for the clarification. I was never very good with that stuff.

My intended meaning was "twice a year". But then, that remains to be seen... as we are into a new year now, and I was thinking of this as follow up to the last meeting.

So I goofed on both counts.

(Although, I do think it would be nice to do these summits more than once a year)

Things for kids to do in the area?

DamienMcKenna's picture

Anyone have suggestions on what to do in the area for kids for 5-6 hours? They've been to the McAuliffe-Shepard space museum already, Krazy Kids (http://gokrazykids.com/) is closed this weekend (argh!), so is there anything else? Thanks.

How about the Chlidren's Museum in Dover?

Susan MacPhee's picture

Dover is a bit of a haul from

hak42's picture

Dover is a bit of a haul from Concord. (I know as that's where I'll be coming from.)

There must be an ice skating rink in Concord. That should keep them busy for a little while. And tire them out for the ride home. ;)

We don't want them too tired,

DamienMcKenna's picture

We don't want them too tired, if they fall asleep on the way home then they'll be up 'til 10pm (normal bedtime is 7:30). But still, a good idea.

Newington

BozHogan's picture

If the children's museum works, but doesn't kill enough time, there's also a Chuck E. Cheese just south of Dover in Newington. It's just off the Spaulding (Route 16)and right near a big mall with a pet store and near a Toys 'R' us. It's been forever since I've been at Chuckie's. Maybe Tanya can confirm that it's still there.

Yes, Chuck E. Cheese is still

hak42's picture

Yes, Chuck E. Cheese is still there. Sadly, the rollerskating rink is not.

Good thought, but out of the way

BozHogan's picture

I've heard good things about the children's museum in Dover, but it's about an hour away from Concord (SouthEast) and two away from you Damien.

Topic: sprint weekend

Snow. Argh.

DamienMcKenna's picture

Please excuse my aggravation, but we're in for a snowy weekend: http://www.weather.com/video/another-weekend-snowstorm-34467

Bribe officials?

DamienMcKenna's picture

Does anyone in the group know a weather reporter we could bribe to make the snow skip Saturday entirely? argh

Seriously!

hak42's picture

I'd be a big fan of this storm waiting until late Sunday to hit. I'm driving to Concord both Saturday and Sunday.

makes offerings to the storm gods

From what I hear, it's not

rggoode's picture

From what I hear, it's not supposed to hit until late Saturday... Hopefully after the meetup. But then Sunday it's supposed to be 100% chance precipitation

Mountains, Gandalf, *mountains*!

DamienMcKenna's picture

I've a 90 minute drive home across the hills & mountains back to Keene, the storm starting in the evening is starting to worry me.

Snow tires! Fun! :)

Do your kids ski?? Both Pats

mkmagu's picture

Do your kids ski?? Both Pats Peak & Crochet Mtn would not be that far out of the way on your drive to Concord. Pats Peak is in Henniker and Crochet Mtn is in Bennington. Both places are Kid friendly.

2 Days to the Summit

rggoode's picture

I just talked to the Barley House, and we're all set for this Saturday. The room will be arranged as last time. A bunch of comfy sofas and chairs arranged in a casual circle. But the room is ours for the day, so if we want to line 'em up in a row, or stack 'em up to the ceiling, that's up to us.

Just two quick notes before Saturday...

  • Jake, Michelle, and I will be arriving just a few minutes late, as we will be on the other side of town at our archery lesson. It doesn't get out until 1pm, so we should arrive by about 1:15. No biggie, since we all sorta just hang out and chat for the first hour anyway.

  • I've asked for some extra power cords to be made available. But the last time, they couldn't find any. So anyone who wants to drag one along, that would be great.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Roger

Power Strip

hak42's picture

I always keep a long power strip in my work bag, so we'll have at least one!

Snow late Saturday

BruceDawson's picture

From what the weather people know, snow probably won't start developing until late Saturday (like in the evening). So I am not worried, but I'm in the next town over!

Not making it :,-((

DamienMcKenna's picture

With the 90-120 minute drive through what will be some constant snow all day, i.e. driving through snow both directions, I'm simply not going to make it :,-( Dangit :(

Well then

gstout's picture

If Damien isn't going, I'm not going either.

But Greg... I'M going...

rggoode's picture

But Greg... I'M going... Don't you love me anymore?

Sadly...

gstout's picture

Roger, ours is a forbidden love. We must but hold on to the memories and dream of better weather.

PS. thanks for the props on LinkedIn

Actually...

rggoode's picture

All love is forbidden love for me... At least until the courts lift the injunction, or I can give my parole officer the slip. ;)

Not sure if I'm going either,

mkmagu's picture

We may need to have a discussion about having a snow day and seeing if the Barley House has next week open. I just checked the weather report and they have it starting in the mid afternoon. With the bulk of it starting around 6:00 PM and we know how well they can predict when it actually starts. Right now I'm leaning towards not going either I have to work Saturday night and really don't want to drive from Concord to Tewksbury Ma in the snow. It looks like most everyone going would end up driving home in the storm and I really don't think that is a good idea.

Mary M.

I dunno... Everything I'm

rggoode's picture

I dunno... Everything I'm seeing is showing the snow not really starting until 7pm or after.

I'll check with the Barley House to see if we'd take a hit on the deposit if we pull out this late.

Jake and I are still going!

miche's picture

(but at 1:15)

According to WMUR "FutureCast", the snow will begin as follows:
UpperValley - 3pm
Keene - 6pm
Manchester/Concord/Nashua - 7pm
Seacoast - 11pm

According to NOAA:
Hanover, NH - light snow at 4pm, picks up at 8pm
Keene - light snow at 2pm, picks up at 7pm
Concord, NH - light snow at 5pm, picks up at 9pm
Nashua, NH - light snow around 4pm, picks up at 7pm
Portsmouth, NH - light snow around 7pm

We can look out the windows and keep an eye on the radar so we know if we need to pack up early.

I don't think it is going to be that bad out during the afternoon, however, safety first! If you are not comfortable driving in a few inches (long distances for some), it is better that you stay safe.

If you decide not to come, please leave a comment AND change your signup status - just so we know what to expect and don't send out a sled team for you.

Of course, I want to see you all, so, crossing my fingers!!

Just my two cents

BozHogan's picture

I'd rather postpone and have a good meeting than one that Damien etal. are missing and those that are there are distracted and/or ducking out early. But Roger, you put the work into this, so I'll follow whatever you decide. I'm also happy to pitch in to help make up any money lost for rescheduling.

"Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool 365,000 times, and you're a weatherman."

Boz

Proceeding as Planned...

rggoode's picture

OK, here's the skinny... The next several weekends are already booked for the Barley House function room, so rescheduling would be a problem.

Also, if we pull out at this late date, we really are kinda screwing them on the room. They'd give us a break on the deposit, but we wouldn't be doing them any favors.

So despite the forecast, we'll stick with the meeting date tomorrow and hope that the snow holds off until later (which is mostly what I'm hearing).

One consolation/incentive that I can offer, though... I asked, and they DO have Hot Toddies!

Looking forward to seeing you safely there.

Roger

Sorry

MMachnik's picture

I am sorry I can't make it nor could I make the Feb Manchester meetup -- it has been busy...hope to see many of you at the next one of both :) Please let us know what comes out of the summit for those of us who cannot be there and have a great time!

Video conference?

DamienMcKenna's picture

Would there be enough interwebs at the Barley House to try doing a video conference for anyone who can't attend?

We can try... I don't know

rggoode's picture

We can try... I don't know much about how it's done... The only thing is I've noticed that the wifi there can be spotty.

Joys of home ownership

mikehues's picture

My hot water heater failed last night. I'm off to Home Depot now. Not sure how long it will take to replace it, but I'm still going to try to make it to the meeting.
