new LA Drupal Treasurer needed

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

To the LA Drupal community:

LA Drupal has an entity called the LA Drupal Association, founded 4 years ago, which enables us to have a bank account for managing donations and camp/event expenses. I am the current treasurer.

It is time for me to move on, and for someone else from the community to step up and become the LA Drupal Treasurer.

If you are interested, please message me privately.

Please do not nominate other people. If you think someone is a good candidate, send them this post and let them contact me themselves.

After March 15, 2013, I will take all of the names of people who express interest, including those who have already approached me prior to this post, to the seven individuals listed as organizers on this group, plus the individuals who are officially part of the LA Drupal Association, and come up with a logical interview process. The treasurer has control of the money, so an interview process is important.

WHY I AM MOVING ON

I would like to focus my LA Drupal time where I am most passionate: training and drupalchix.

Taking on the role of treasurer was something I did because someone had to. It is not my talent or passion, and the community will benefit from a new person taking on that role and doing it justice.

HISTORY

The official founding members include Chris Charlton, Christefano and me. I took responsibility for the official role of treasurer and was, initially, the only person on the bank account. Soon after, we convinced John Romine to be a second person on the bank account as an added level of security, and as backup for me.

John Romine will continue to be on the bank account with the new treasurer, and provide support where needed. He is a fantastic colleague with a good mind for keeping things straight.

Thank you for trusting me as the treasurer for these past many years.

I look forward to helping a community member settle into this role in the near future.

Warmly,

Rain

Rain, you are an amazing contributor to this community & I, for one, am very grateful for all the work you've done as Treasurer. John Romine deserves some thanks also for stepping up to back you up (thanks John!)! The LA Drupal Association has been a huge help to those of us who like to put together conferences, in & around LA, & provides a huge value to both the community, organizers/producers of events & all the attendees who benefit from that "chain" of contribution.

I know you're not going anywhere, I just wanted to chime in to say "GRACIAS!" :)

p.s. More DrupalChix!!!

Mike and Miguel, Thank you for your notes on this post. I appreciate the sentiments.

For all who are watching this post: four long-time members of the LA Drupal Community who care a great deal about its success have written to me thus far, expressing interest, which is fantastic. My thanks go to those individuals.

The post above gives everyone until March 15th, and I will continue to stand by that date.

Warmly,

Rain

This comment is an effort to keep the community informed of where we are in this process.

As of yesterday, we have had three fantastic interviews. All interviewees were asked the same set of questions, some of which they had before hand, and some which were followup questions that came up during the process. At this time, the people that I originally selected to make this decision have a week to review the interviews, resumes and references.

By next Monday (4/15), we will know what our next steps are (if not have a new treasurer).

I am personally abstaining from the vote (even though I ran the interviews) because one of the volunteer candidates is someone with whom I work frequently, and I feel that I have too much of a bias towards that individual.

I have been asked by some to explain my choice of people who are making the selection. These are the reasons for the people included:

  1. We could not limit the selection committee to LADA, because, due to conflicts of interest, the remaining selector would have been Chris Charlton alone (possibly Chris Charlton and John Romine). More voices needed to be heard in this process.
  2. I know and trust all of the people that I included, and they have been long-time members of the community with a strong record of participation.
  3. The people included are mostly people who will have to work with the individual selected in some way, and it is important for the health of the community that the person in this one peculiar role (which is a role of significant accountability) is someone everyone feels they can work with.

I realize that some community members take issue with the process that I have chosen to follow. This was my choice; once I have passed the baton to the next individual, they and the community can decide how to move forward.

If anyone feels that there has been a lack of transparency, that was not the intention at all. Just ask what you want to know, and I will tell you.

responding to questions

I received 2 questions regarding this process during the meetup on Tuesday:

Who volunteered for the Treasurer position?

Answer: I waited until all of the remaining volunteer candidates confirmed that they were okay with their names being released. We initially had four candidates. One dropped out of the running due to conflict of interest. That individual's name will remain private unless they choose to disclose themselves.

The remaining candidates are all excellent individuals, and whatever the selection committee decides, the community will be in fantastic hands. They are (in the order they volunteered):

Who is on the selection committee?

The selection committee is made up of the following individuals (though it is not yet certain all of them will choose to vote):

From the original people who put together the LADA Association: Chris Charlton, Mike Stewart (even though he was not on the paperwork), Christefano and me. Christefano and I are removed from the process for reasons of conflict of interest. I ran the interviews and am organizing this process because I feel that is my responsibility when I choose to leave a role.

In order to expand the committee more, I have included: Steve Rifkin, Ashok Modi, Ishmael Sanchez, Pete Benjamin and, of course, the person who works most closely with the treasurer, John Romine.

Just letting you know that we are close to the end of this process, but not quite there yet. We should have a decision/results to post by the end of this week.

We have a new Treasurer, Tommy Keswick!

First, thank you to all three of the volunteers. Each one is an asset to the Los Angeles Drupal community, and I hope that the community continues to benefit from their commitment.

Second, I'm happy to announce that Tommy Keswick (TommyK) is the incoming LADA Treasurer.

It won't be official until we get me off the bank account, and him on it, but we should be able to do that by DrupalCon Portland (hopefully).

I look forward to seeing Tommy take on this role, and do it real justice.

Congrats, Tommy, and thanks
