Calling all East Bay Drupal users, hackers and fans! The first meeting of the Berkeley Drupal Group will meet on Tuesday, April 24th, 7-8:30pm, on the UC Berkeley campus, 290 Hearst Mining Building. We have the room reserved ongoing on the 4th Tuesday of the month, so please help us spread the word.
Agenda:
This is the first meeting, so it will be mostly about introducing ourselves and the projects we are working on, and finding out what people want to get out of the group. If we have time, we could also do a round of show-your-favorite-module.
Directions to 290 Hearst Mining:
Map of the campus - http://www.berkeley.edu/map/maps/large_map.html (I have attached an annotated version of this map)
This room is located next to CITRIS headquarters, so you can use these directions: http://www.citris-uc.org/about/visitors/directions
Parking can be a challenge around campus. The closest area to look is around Hearst & Euclid, and you can always pay $4 to park in the Hearst Lot at the corner of Hearst & Scenic (entrance on Scenic). Also, Hearst Mining is about a 15 minute walk from the downtown Berkeley BART station.
You will need to enter Hearst Mining through the main entrance on the South side, as the rest of the building will be locked.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Let us know the next meeting time!
I can't make it this coming Tuesday due to a prior commitment. But I'd like to know when the next one will be. Thanks for organizing this!
4th Tuesday of the Month
I have the room reserved for the 4th Tuesday of the month for the next block of months. So the next date would be May 22nd.
If this time of day, or day of week really doesn't work for people, let me know. I think there will be all more scheduling flexibility over the summer.
The interesting thing that I am hearing from the staff on campus is that they would rather have a meeting during working hour, but I am assuming that eliminates most people in this group. Or maybe not, if everyone is living the super-flexible contractor lifestyle. Would people rather try and meet during the day (maybe lunchtime)?
I could meet day or evening
I'm a potential Drupal user, not a contractor. (We're trying to decide between Drupal and Plone as a CMS for the non-profit organization I work for.) So I could meet during the day, or the evening, whichever works best for the majority of people.
Time of meeting
I strongly would prefer a meeting during the day. I work professionally with Drupal and this is part of my job. I know many others for whom this is true as well. We had this discussion (about time of day) when we did the first SF meetings - we opted for daytime meetings for just this reason. For the most part my nights belong to my family :). I realize that some people who would like to participate won't be able to make daytime meetings - perhaps they will be able to set up an evening meeting for themselves in that case.
Anytime
Anytime of the day is fine for me, I'm flexible.

Prefer Days
Working hours are preferred over here! Lunch-time sounds great to me...
Next Meeting Time
Ok, it seems like almost everyone would rather do a daytime meeting, or could do either. So we will have the meeting tonight, and then I will see if I can get a space to have the next meeting at lunchtime.
Planning to be there
I freed up my schedule - looking forward to it!
The meeting was great!
The first official meeting of the Berkeley Drupal Users Group (BDUG?), was a smashing success. We had 13 people show up. It was a good mix of experience levels and people from on & off campus (no students though, I need to figure out the right place to put an announcement). We even figured out how to get folk hooked up to wireless and get the video projector working.
The flow of the meeting was: introductions, general drupal Q&A and then a couple of presentations, which seemed to work pretty well.
Even with the good turn out, most of the people there liked the idea of a daytime meeting better, and given how many people said they can only do daytime, I will start looking for an available time during the day.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up!
That was cool!
Nice meeting - good folks. Good conversation. Good Drupal.
Shout out to starbow for showing the way!
if I'd only known...
I'd a been there! I found out about the group two days afterward. I'm pretty flexible about times and days; evenings are slightly easier.
I'm just learning about Drupal. Am asked to set up various document-sharing & discussion/blog sites at work from time to time; a colleague showed me Drupal's potential for this; he leverages his designs into multiple sites. I am playing with some test sites.
Looking forward to joining you all another time.
