Thanks to Zivtech, we have sponsorship for drinks after the camp. I've not spent much time in the neighborhood around the Poly, so am looking for help to choose a bar. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bar that's within walking distance of the Poly and can handle a few dozen people?
Here's a list to start from: http://bit.ly/5GDmcM
If I don't get any feedback I'll probably go ahead and speak to the people at Cody's or O'Keefes. I'm not a fan of sports bars, but it sounds like they'd have the space to accommodate us.

Zivtech's vote...
Is for Floyd's. Here's what my friend Mike, who lives in the area, had to say about it:
(11:04:09 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: any suggestions for a bar in DT BK or near BK Poly-Tech that would be good for a relatively large crowd
(11:04:10 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: ?
(11:04:15 AM) Mike Connery: when is this?
(11:04:21 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: this Saturday
(11:04:22 AM) Mike Connery: Yeah, Floyds is great.
(11:04:32 AM) Mike Connery: Cheap beer, just two blocks east of Brazen Head.
(11:04:37 AM) Mike Connery: Plus indoor bocci court.
(11:04:42 AM) Mike Connery: You went there with me once.
(11:04:46 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: yeah, I know the spot
(11:04:49 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: great choice
11:05
(11:05:00 AM) Mike Connery: Good juke box.
(11:05:05 AM) Mike Connery: Some decent bourbons and whiskies
(11:05:08 AM) Mike Connery: Good beers on tap
(11:05:16 AM) Mike Connery: And you can of course by the $13 bucket o beer
(11:05:20 AM) Mike Connery: 5 cans of cheapo stuff.
(11:05:25 AM) Mike Connery: in a bucket of ice.
(11:05:54 AM) Mike Connery: If people want cocktails, or great food
(11:06:11 AM) Mike Connery: Henry Public is a (small) new place that opened up across the street from Floyd
(11:07:10 AM) kaos777@gmail.com/CFFA0C0D: can I quote you?
(11:07:16 AM) Mike Connery: http://ajiggerofblog.com/2009/10/12/henry-public/
(11:07:53 AM) Mike Connery: Brazen Head is good too - good whisky, and maybe better beers on tap than Floyd.
(11:07:57 AM) Mike Connery: But smaller.
(11:08:01 AM) Mike Connery: than Floyd
(11:08:17 AM) Mike Connery: and no bocci, obviously.
(11:08:54 AM) Mike Connery: But those are the three best without moving down Smith St., and you could totally do a bar crawl from one to the other, finishing up at Henry Public last for all the die hards.
And here's one vote for a bar crawl!
Floyd's is a 10 minute walk (16 minutes for the slow pokes) from Polytech:

Floyds sounds good
This sounds perfect - big enough, good price, good location (and the whisky is the final sell for me)
There's good feedback at http://www.yelp.com/biz/floyd-brooklyn
They say on their website that they do drinks tickets for non-profit fundraisers. Although we're not a non-profit we could see if they'd do drink tickets for us - that would make things much easier for the sponsorship. http://www.floydny.com/info.html
And here it is on http://greatbrewers.com/retailer/floyds-nyc
Alex - do you want to contact them to say that we'll be coming and see if they can do some kind of drinks tickets? If you can't then I'll go ahead and contact them.
Cheers,
Thomas
