yess!!
AHA! my first meetup in new york and with drupal community in general and i am very excited.
I am by no means a speaker (yet) so for now i will only provide ideas for some one else to discuss.
One possible topic of discussion could be: Other avenues for drupal.
From my limited experience with drupal community i've noticed that most Drupal users see drupal only as MCS, only to serve pages.
However we know that drupal is much more than just that. I have taken my personal experience with drupal in direction of game development. so that is aditional use for drupal, a frame work upon which games are developed.
This ofcourse heavily linked into performance and scalability, and i would love to hear some one with experience on performance tuning.

GMap Module
I'd be interested in talking about the GMap module - how to add multiple tabs to the popup, theming the popup window, working with the clusterer script, etc.
Looking forward to another great Meetup,

New Location?
I'm glad this group seems to really be picking up. I've been once and would like to go more, but have a hard time getting from work so far to the west side. MNN has been a great and gracious host, but how do others feel about looking at finding a new spot that might be more central. My guess is that most people are coming from various parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn so somewhere around Union Square or in God-foresaken Midtown might make sense.
What do others think?
New Location
I'm down with it. I think the keys here is consistency of the venue and easy access by public transportation. MNN is fairly easy to get to but the walk over from Columbus Circle, especially in the Winter, can be brutal
I'd suggest the following criteria for a place
1) WiFi its a must
2) Ability to present.. projector, screen or big a$# monitor
3) public transportation... the more trains the better.
Although I live in Manhattan I think I'm one of the few and the rare so I'm up for heading to Brooklyn if others are.

We could probably meet at
We could probably meet at the Pando offices in SoHo, though I'm not sure how big the group could get. Our conference room is SRO when we have all-company meetings of ~ 20 people. I think we can seat 15, max. What was the April turnout like?
April turnout was good!
The MNN conference table was packed for the first half of the meetup. A bit more structure would keep more people around the entire time but if May is like April we'll pack the conference tight.
Is Pando's conference room a similar size? bigger?
Either way from my quick glance at it (Pando's conference room), it could work.
What do people think about the location?

Either place is fine... but-
I could do either space, but one really nice thing that's really nice about MNN (and the timing) is that parking spaces all over that area become legal just at 7pm, so it's easy to park.
I realize I'm in the minority here however, regarding car concerns
Eric
woah...
a driver...
Wow you coming from jersey? ;)

definitely not, CT :P

wow..
That's still a drive. Well lets see where people would like it.. Maybe there is a 3rd or 4th possibility out there.

I'll go wherever...
Yeah, don't mind me, I'll go wherever it is. It's only about 35 minutes from Stamford to MNN... or does that prove how scary my driving is? :)
Also, since I figure any southern CT Drupalers are probably registered here instead of (or in addition to) the CT group, I suppose if you need a ride from say Fairfield or south, I'd be happy to provide car pool opportunities. I don't expect huge demand, but the offer stands
Eric
MNN's fine with me
MNN's fine with me, though I work in the East Village and live in Williamsburg, so Union Square/SoHo would be more convenient.

I will be coming from brookly so high subway availability is one of the more important things for me.

MNN was great and the parking superb.
I'll be driving in from Westchester and if geojaz wants to carpool he can meet me at the TZ Bridge.
Can we discuss roles and OGs?

ny php meeting conflict
Hi guys, this group looks great and I can't wait to attend one of the meetings. Unfortunately, your May meeting conflicts with the NYPHP user group meeting. Perhaps, in the future, we could schedule meetings around other major groups?
Good point
Ya. it would be good to do so.
How many other people is this inconveniencing?
What other meetup groups are on Tuesday nights?

Mostly a designer
But I work with Drupal a lot and would love to be exposed to what's going on in Drupal NY.
I'll be there.
First one for me
I am looking forward to it. We just launched the site for our newspaper on Drupal and I love it. Please check out the site http://www.observer.com and my job posting http://groups.drupal.org/node/3900

Another topic?
If anyone knows about using symlinks I'd be really interested in learning about setting them up. It seems so simple, but I can't manage to set one up that I want. I've just posted a help request on the main Drupal forum - http://drupal.org/node/145730 - so perhaps my question will be answered there. Otherwise if someone can help me tomorrow night I'll get them a beer or two afterwards!

I'm hoping to actually attend this one. I haven't seen an official topic yet so I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'd seen requests back in April for OG & GMap, I'd been interested also. and a lower priority option would be creating profiles.
BTW suggestion for event title. Instaed of just May meetup make it NYC May Meetup. I saw the entry on the g.d.o events list but had no idea that it was for NYC.
I'll be in town!
Hey cool. What timing! I'm coming down to the city for some meetings tomorrow.
I think I'll stick around and meet some NYC Drupalers!

Can't Make it
Unfortunately, I have a final cut pro video editing class tomorrow night at the same time. So I will be unable to make it.
would this meeting help me? what do you suggest?
I don't know anything about drupal or anything about programming for that matter, but the small company i work for hired a programmer for our e-commerce site (who is using drupal) and he hasn't been proactive or responsive about educating us in regards to the possibilities and limitations of drupal. we ask questions and they don't get answered or he says something is possible, but it ends up not being possible and vice versa, so he have no idea if he is thoroughly informed or not. Would it be beneficial for me to come to this meeting? Could someone who would classify themselves as a drupal know-it-all be willing to communicate and correspond with me about specific issues and options?- may lead to contractual work. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It might....
The meetup are generally for those people that are actively using Drupal and want to talk about particular subjects. However we often field questions from newbies and almost everyone whom attends learn something even if it is a tiny morsel.
In short, attending can't hurt.
In the future it would be a good idea to post a topic of what you'd like to learn about. Stating something like "I know nothing about this but I'd like to, could someone present on it?" helps.

May meetup & next?
Hello everyone,
This was my first meeting and I found it quite interesting and informative. At least I was glad I could follow most of the discussion! I am not in any way a programmer, and I'm interested in working with more tech-y people - I'm good at the content side. I would like to see more of a networking session to the meeting, which I suspect may have happened after I left. How late do the meetings typically run? Will there be a June meeting?
I also would be interested in the skill share idea that was discussed in another thread. I'm really excited about Drupal and want to learn as much as I can. I would be happy to trade writing, editing, proofing, research, testing (I have Firefox, Safari, Netscape & IE on both Mac & Windows), marketing and general scutwork skills for more advanced Drupal skills.
