EDIT dated 5/30/07. I'm hoping someone with Drupal experience will step forward and give a short "Welcome to Drupal" presentation at the meetup on Tuesday. In addition, I'm hoping a few folks step forward and volunteer to give module presentations and/or overviews. If you plan on presenting something, could you please add a short blurb below as to what you will cover for the meetup? Thank you!
Simply pick a module that you're familiar with and that you know others could definitely use and give a 10-15 minute overview of it. I've volunteered to give a short overview of the Organic Groups module unless, of course, an OG expert steps forward - I'm still learning it! :) I also think theming in general would be very much appreciated, so could someone please volunteer to show us how to do some basic theming? After some presentations, we'll split up into smaller groups where folks can move around as they wish to learn about this or that and speak with different people, network, etc. Thanks!
SPECIAL NOTE:
We are planning a more structured meetup for TUESDAY, June 5th. (The original date has been changed from Wednesday, 6/6, to TUESDAY, 6/5.) Here are additional ideas and details:
- I'd like a more structured Austin Drupal Users Group Meetup for Wednesday, June 5, 2007
- Beginning in Drupal - June 5, 2007 Austin

A very warm "Thank you!" goes out to David Strauss and Four Kitchen Studios for allowing the Austin DUG to meet at their new offices. Congrats on the move! Please see David's comment below for directions as well as his comment that you should "Feel free to bring food, drink, and laptops."
Why
The Austin DUG wants YOUR participation and your fellow Drupalers want to meet you, make new friends/professional contacts, and learn about how you're using Drupal.
Sign up by adding your "Yes, I'll be there" comment below. It is courteous and helps in planning purposes by letting both the host and the venue to know how many folks will be attending.
What would you like to discuss and/or present?
Although Meetups are very informal and cover broad technology issues, Drupal users of all levels - new users to expert users - are encouraged to add a comment as to what, if anything, you'd like to discuss and/or present. We need volunteers to step up to the plate and offer to share their knowledge of Drupal! For example, a volunteer can offer to share a basic 15-minute intro of Drupal, someone else then takes over and offers another short intro of something else (e.g., Walt will give a short Organic Groups intro), and so on. If we can get 4-5 short intros, that would be great, it would then be around 8 pm or so, and we could then break out into smaller groups that want to discuss a particular module or whatever for the remainder of the meetup.
Please add your comments.

Comments
I'll present a brief overview of organic groups unless...
...there's an OG expert that would prefer to cover this area. :)
I'm currently learning about the organic groups module and will do my best in presenting it on 6/5. I'm figuring I'll take 10-15 minutes of your time.
Please do not sling any rotten fruit at me while I'm on stage! LOL.

Meeting tonight
I'll try to be there but the T1 just went down and I've got to be there if they need equipment cycled. Hopefully the other person who was planning on going can still make it.
Brian
I've been beta testing so long that doing the wrong thing has become almost instinctive.
Yes, I'll be there
I am brand new to Drupal but want to learn. I did buy a beginner's book but haven't taken the plunge into the details yet. My most immediate goal is to be able to design and manage my group's website, and we may need it up and running pretty soon for some upcoming events. Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning something!
I will be there too. I
I will be there too. I would like to give a talk about the new asset.module that I have been working on. By tuesday it will be in a solid beta stage, and I would like to present it to everyone.
Will be there
Are we going to have broadband access at the meeting location so we can build our already hosted sites during the meeting?

Yes.
We will have two wireless networks (one wide open, the other WPA2). Many walls have gigabit ethernet ports.
yes, I'll be there
Looking forward to it. I can share my recent experiences with gmap/location module, amfphp/flash remoting, and jquery/thickbox.
Detecting browser settings
One thing I would like to discuss is how to get Drupal sites to recognize and adapt to different browsers and the ways browsers may be set. For example, to see this page correctly, from work, I have to use Firefox with Javascript etc enabled, but the IE6 browsers that are installed by default at work with Javascript disabled can't see most of it. We should at least have a way for Drupal pages that need browser functions enabled to detect when they are not and issue a warning: "To see [everything] on this page you need to enable Javascript".

Integrating with Moodle
There is another content management system, Moodle, from moodle.org, that is good for online instruction. It can do much of what Drupal does, but not everything. On the other hand, it has no equal for delivering instruction courses. I would like to discuss ways the two might be integrated, other than by setting them up on separate domains and having them link to one another.

Searchability of Drupal sites
As a webmaster of a site, constitution.org, that is highly ranked by the search engines, I am concerned about the impact on search engine rankings of having a site with dynamic, database-driven content. I know the more sophisticated spiders can penetrate such sites, but I would be concerned about how site design might impair the indexing of content and the resulting rankings. I am also concerned about the ability of other sites to link to one's content so that people would not have dead links, but also that the search engines that base ranking on links from other sites would continue to take such links into account.

Save me a seat. . .
I'll be there.
I'll be there
I'll be there tonight and I have a lot of questions about CiviRM. Hopefully someone who's used it will be there too :-)
Count me in
I'll be there tonight as well. See you all there.
Sorry, My car can't drive
Sorry, My car can't drive that far north. Something happens to the magnetic fields and the GPS just keeps rerouting me back to south austin. Seriously though, i hope everyone has a good time and i hope to see you all at a future meet up. If anyone wants to get together downtown on a more adhoc basis for a little introduction id be happy to walk you through some drupal concepts like the module hook system, theming, or the bootstrap process.
