What is the correct schedule for this?
Are we doing first Wednesday of each month for meetups? If so, shouldn't this be July 7th?
Good question. Putting it on
Good question.
Putting it on July 7th puts a 5 week gap between May & June, and a 3 week gap to the August meetup. I think that may have been the reasoning with this one..
A Miss For Me Either Way
Well the 30th is my wedding anniversary and I'm out of town on the 7th so it's a miss either way. In general, I think that both events, the meetup and the social should be on the same kind of scheduling, either "n weeks" or "nth week of the month".
Drupaling in NYC since 2009!
My experience would suggest this
I favor first x of a month/ second x of month/ ... / last x of month for regular meetings.
My sense is that this should make it slightly more likely that someone who is not now actively a part of the NYC drupal community might wind up coming. It's a memory thing. I can imagine someone telling a friend that he/she can't do something else because they have a conflict - that the there's an NYC drupal user's group meeting on the first Wednesday of ever month. It's easy to imagine other scenarios where that sticks in someone's mind.
Generally I favor anything that brings new people to our monthly meeting - as a group we get better as we get more people involved.
I'll chime in here. As a new
I'll chime in here. As a new guy who keeps saying to himself, "self...we gotta go to one of them Drupal meetups..." but then winds up not going because he can't recall exactly what day it is this month (admittedly somewhat lazy on self's part), I am probably more likely to follow through if I know that the x Wednesday of every month is when that meetup thing happens.
Next NYC Meetup RESCHEDULED!!
Thanks to the good people of Mansueto Ventures, our next meetup has been RESCHEDULED to July 7th. (A big thanks to Mansueto Ventures for their awesome in kind sponsorship of our group!)
If you were signed up for the meetup on June 30th, please make note of the new date and update your personal calendar accordingly.
If you aren't signed up yet, then make sure to sign up now. This will be our last meetup before DrupalCampNYC!! We hope to see you there.
Propose a short topic for the next meetup!
Hi All. Last couple of NYC meetups haven't had a real presentation on any Drupal topic. I've just proposed a short (15 to 20 min) topic on "What I learned from OpenPublish and what you can too".
How about some more?
I'd like to have at least one hour of presentations before we split up into groups or BOFs, etc. Anyone have a site they want to show off? Anyone use a module they'd like to demonstrate? Remember we get quite a few brand new to drupal folks at each meeting so anything of interest you'd like to demo please post a comment here and we'll add it to the agenda!
See you at the next meetup (July 7th!)
Meetup BOF: NYC Group leadership
I've added a BOF "NYC Community Organizers" to the next meetup.
I see this as a continuation of the topic from last month around conflict resolution. I feel like confirming that we are happy with the current group organizers is an important step. I'd also like to discuss how we think group organizers should be selected and what kinds of roles and tasks are they expected to do as organizers.
Perhaps we can use the last 45 min or hour for this?
good idea, i think this will
good idea, i think this will go by swimmingly.
So who is doing "7/7/D7: "is seven heaven?""
Can we get a real presentation/name attached to that? Just post a comment here please.
If there are enough D7 related presentations to fill 60 to 90 min I'll happily defer mine till another time.
7/7/D7
When I suggested having a meeting on 7/7 dedicated to Drupal 7, what I meant was more along the lines of making D7 the thematic focus of the meeting, so that each of the presentations might present some facet of it, such as Jen giving a report on Bartik, someone running down changes to the UI, a lightning talk on Field API, etc.
As you say if there are enough D7 related presentations you'll defer— yes, but will you give a D7 preso! ;-)
I'll have to think about that
I'm already committed to finishing the first two courses in my drupal open curriculum project (see http://gitorious.org/drupal-open-curriculum). I'm also attending two other camps between now and 7/7 (yay me). And finally I'm committed to doing at least one session at drupalcampnyc.
And I haven't really been playing with D7 since about December.
I think I may be over committed.
But...
What the hay. I'll try to come up with a 10 minute preso on D7 as part of a D7 "lightning talk series". I can always just borrow (cough steal) some quotes from damz's awesome D7 fields in core presentation from drupalconsf.
Ok, floor is open. I want to see at least 1 hour of Drupal 7 presentations for this meetup. Please post your ideas as comments. Even a 5 minute item is acceptable. Let's do it people!
New to Drupal / this group
Hey guys, I am new drupal and this community here. I would love to make the meetup and see what you guys are all about and what you do. I am interested in learning more about drupal and how it incorporate it into my project and get the most out of drupal while contributing back as much as possible.
Coming to the NYC Meetup tomorrow?

Make sure you are signed up with your full name. If you aren't signed up, or if you full name is not listed on your groups.drupal.org profile then your name won't be on the 7 WTC list.
Check here to see if you are signed up and confirm that your name is listed...

Hmm presentations didn't really firm up
Presentations didn't firm up too well for tomorrow's meeting.
So what's the deal. Tomorrow's theme is Drupal 7. Anyone have a 5 to 10 min (or more) presentation to give on Drupal 7 please come prepared to do so. Can be simple or complex.
I have a somewhat difficult to come by PRIZE (yes, that's right I'm resorting to bribery) for whoever gives the coolest Drupal 7 presentation.
If there aren't enough Drupal 7 presentations to fill about an hour, then I'll give my "What I learned from OpenPublish..." presentation. Perhaps that is added incentive for some of you to come up with Drupal 7 presentations :/
See you tomorrow!
D7 Preso
No guarantees that it will be more than 10 minutes (as I will probably write it over lunch), but I'll present on the improvements in color.module in Drupal 7 and Bartik, and where it needs improvement for Drupal 8.
Hello
Sorry, I couldn't join. Was hoping to meet some fellow Drupalists. Hopefully another time.
Thanks!
Just finished my Bartik /
Just finished my Bartik / color.module presentation. I'm on the way in now.

My presentation, with a few edits after the fact, is up at http://treehouseagency.com/blog/steven-merrill/2010/07/08/color-me-flexi...
