Who

Calling all Central Texas Drupalers! Meetups are very informal and Drupal users of all levels - new users to expert users - are encouraged to attend and participate. Be sure to introduce yourself to the group.

What

Austin Drupal Users Group Meetup! For our next meetup, folks expressed a desire for more of a social get-together where we can not only talk about Drupal but also have a cold drink and perhaps grab a bite to eat.

When

Tuesday, August 14th. 7-9 pm.

[I'm hoping it's OK with the majority of folks (hey, can't please everyone :) ) if we meet on the 2nd Tue in Aug (8/14) instead of the 1st Tue. The 1st Tue (8/7) is National Night Out. Basically, it's a neighborhood meetup with police, fire, and EMS as invited guests. I serve on my neighborhood association's board of directors so I'm already committed the night of 8/7.]

Where

Scholz Garten
1607 San Jacinto Street
Austin, TX
474-1958

Scholz Garten is 3 blocks south of the main UT campus and I already called them and gave them a tentative party of 15. They told me they have wifi...and plenty of seating...and plenty of cold drinks...and plenty of good food...and site of the first ever UT football victory party...

Why

The Austin DUG wants YOUR participation and your fellow Drupalers want to meet you, make new friends/professional contacts, and learn about how you're using Drupal.

Sign up by adding your "Yes, I'll be there" comment below. It is courteous and helps in planning purposes by letting both the host and the venue know how many folks will be attending.

I might be in vancouver but if not id be happy to attend this more centrally located event with a pub. If anyone has any questions about the bootstrap process, theming, module programming, integrated development process, drupal 6 developments and their effects on you, etc just let me know and I'll be happy to speak up.

Integrated development environment (IDE)

Michael,

Thanks for the offer you posted on the 7/3 meetup as well as the offer you posted above to help others learn a bit about IDE, among other things. If you're in town for our meetup, I'd like to take you up on your offer specifically with regard to IDE.

I can't tell from the software you mentioned on your other post whether you run on Windows or Mac (seems most are cross-platform), and I don't know if it really matters since I'm sure the process is what's important. At any rate, here are a few open-source apps I'm using (I thought it might be helpful if I listed them) on my Windows XP machine:

  • I've been dabbling a bit with EasyEclipse for PHP as an overall IDE tool (although my background is business and not development so it's a steep learning curve for me).
  • I'm using FileZilla for FTP and SFTP.
  • I'm using Nvu as my web authoring system for anything I may need outside of Drupal.
  • I'm using PeaZip as my file archiver.

If you can keep things at a relatively easy-to-understand and high-level view, that would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I actually run that other

I actually run that other operating system not on your list (Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon). But as you mentioned it doesnt really matter because Eclipse is Java based and it runs on every platform with a decent JVM. I would be happy to provide both the broad strokes of Integrated development environment of my personal choice as well as the background on the other options if desired. I can easily and simply explain the eclipse frameworks and how to leverage its great strengths to allow you to focus on development work instead of management.

Sounds great!
