I know this is short notice, but I feel this must be done.

There has been a lot of discussion about the future of this event, and talk that it should be moved from the last Wednesday of the month to every fourth Wednesday. There was even a happy hour last week to fall in line with the every four weeks schedule.

To set the record straight, I will continue to schedule this event for the last Wednesday of every month. After talking to numerous people, this seems to be the consensus that the last Wednesday is much easier to track, without having to check the groups homepage.

I realize that given the 4 week cycle of the other meetup, there will eventually be a scheduling conflict. Its my opinion that there is a small enough overlap between the two events, that when this happens, it will pass with very little actual conflict.

So come out this Wednesday, and celebrate Worldwide Drupal Happy Hour with me. (Like you really need an excuse to go get a beer after work!)

Perhaps we should do the same

Perhaps we should do the same for meetups? we have already scheduled several meetups in advance but i am certainly open to changing our scheduling format if that is what people want. however, i certainly want to keep the two events at least 2 weeks apart (as we do now)

When I mentioned this in IRC

I was basically put in my place by you and told those with ideas need to do more. I think this makes a lot of sense cause then we guarantee monthly meetups instead of 13 meetups a year.

My 2 cents.

I'm down with the monthlys

I agree that the events should be a couple weeks apart but i'm down with a monthly schedule. I missed the last one because my brain was already programmed for the last wednesday of the month. It's easier to remember, for me at-least.

I'm a fan of every 2(4) weeks

I'm still in favor of having the events every 4 weeks, both the happy hour and meetup for the following reasons:
1) Dates are more certain. Before it was a little unclear what wed it would be when it was just "around" the middle of the month, making forward planning trickier.
2) The spacing is consistent - 1 week there is an event, the next week I have "off"
3) I think it was actually easier to remember it. I forget how many days are in each month, so for instance I would have guessed that the happy hour was LAST week (in fact I thought I'd missed it)

I think we have a couple months before they would start running into each other, but I think we should try to do both one way or another. If we did the "second wednesday in the month" for the meetups, then that would at least be more guaranteed.

So, I favor every 2(4) weeks, but as long as we can make them both the same and regular(predictable 1 year ahead), then it works for me.

Cheers!

i am in favor of "every 2(4) weeks" format as well for the very same reason as its easier to plan and keep track of in calendar.

@frankcarey: 1 year ahead is a bit much but we are already doing 6 months ahead meetup plans. i hope beer/social will have similar length forward planning as well.
