I'm thinking about using the signup module for an online class registration process, but I really need a waiting list feature when the classes reach capacity. Has anyone worked on a feature like this, for signup or anything else?
I found one mention of a wait-list feature here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/4151 but haven't stumbled across it anywhere else. Has anyone else had a need for this feature? I'm open to suggestions, or better alternatives than working with Signup, if anyone has any ideas for me.
Thanks!
Jen

What's the motivation?
I'm making a multi-step form for signup.module that will be used on a yearly conference site, but I can't think of a motivation to have a waiting list feature. Could you give a real world example, perhaps?

Hmm... Motivation?
I can't speak to Jen's motivation... however, my motivation for wanting a waiting list is to be able to reflect who would be next if somebody dropped out.
Jen's situation sounds like it might be similar to mine. One of my backburner projects is to provide training to the community on how to utilize various open source tools such as OpenOffice and/or common Internet tools (del.icio.us, RememberTheMilk, google services... etc).
The classes would only be able to seat 25 per session. What I'd like to be able to do is actually mark the participants who are "accepted" as such... and be able to create a list of users who are interested in future classes. Additionally... would be nice to be able to drop in the first person on the "waiting list" when somebody who was "accepted" is no longer going to be in attendance (didn't pay their fee, didn't get a parental permission slip, didn't pass health inspection... whatever...).
