January Meetup in Washington, DC
Hey everyone,
I found a location that meets multiple criteria, which people asked to be considered in future meets.
Location: DC Library, West End Branch (small meeting room)
Address: 1101 24th Street, NW (corner of 24th Street and L Street, NW)
Library Contact Phone: 202.724.8707
Metro Accessible: Foggy Bottom MetroRail station (Orange & Blue lines)
Day and Time: Sunday, January 13th, 1PM (reserved for us until 4:45PM)
The site has been checked out. It is two blocks from the Metro station and has decent parking on the street. There’s a Starbucks, 7-Eleven, and a McFadden’s restaurant between the Metro and the library if you want to pick something up. We’ll be situated in the small meeting room on the second floor of the library. It has tables and chairs to comfortably seat 20-25 people. The room has an overhead projection screen available should we have a need for one. There are 6-8 outlets (but no power strips or extension cords) in the room and the location offers wi-fi (tested out at medium strength).
See you there.

I definitely can't make this
I definitely can't make this meetup. It's a two hour drive (each way) for me. Sounds like a good location, is this location available after hours? I'm not sure how the DC library works, however the one where I live has external entrances so they may be reserved at any time.
Cycling through the list...
The general rule with the meeting rooms is that they are open and available as long as the library branch is open. This particular branch is open "after hours" but only on certain days.
Mon, Wed - 9:00AM - 9:00PM | Tue, Thu, Fri - 9:30AM - 5:00PM | Sun - 1:00PM - 5:00PM
I also looked at some library locations in Virginia and they appear to have a similar setup but with a modern/updated look and feel.
I've compiled a list of other spots (cafes, sports bars, etc.) where we can meet but that make it tough for us in one way or another (reservation of space, capacity, wi-fi availability, etc.). It's highly unlikely that we'll find the perfect spot that works for everyone but as long as we give everyone enough notice for each meetup, I'm sure that we can find a "short list" of locations that we can cycle through on a regular basis.
I should probably look through some older Washington DC Drupal posts for ideas. This can't be a new problem.
Doh!
I guess it hadn't occurred to me that these meet-ups would be on Sundays. Geez, my work is mostly on Sundays. That is the reason I can no longer attend drupal-dojo lessons regularly.
I get it that it is hard for most folks to do week nights. But have we settled on a particular Sunday each month? It would help me to look ahead to see when I could possibly attend.
thanks,
Katrina

Moving the meeting around...
All the meetings are not (pre)planned for weekends.
I only chose Sunday for January since we had such a great turnout for December. It seemed to work out for most of the folks who showed up.
Just as we plan to move locations each month to accommodate everyone, we should also consider other days.
Let's tentatively look at an after-work/evening meet for Feb (date TBD).

Can't make this one :(
Sorry folks, but I will be heading up the Drupal Dojo CoffeeTalk at 2pm that day. Hopefully I can make the February meeting (I'll be out of town Feb. 3-12.)
Wifi
Saw no mention of wifi in this post or the web site. That has been verified, right?
wifi and an opportunity for a free beer
all dc public libraries have wifi. Which is nice.
as stated in this pdf
Self serving bit:
I plan on attending this meet-up, and I also would like to steal a few minutes of a couple peoples time, perhaps afterwards or before. I need to interview someone and write a short paper on what that person considers the 3 most significant issues related to information services.
Ideally the interviewee would be someone who has a good deal of experience with community networks or knowledge sharing/collaborative online environments, but librarians, corporate info center specialists and others would be good too.
So if you'd be willing, let me know. I'll buy you a beer for your trouble (or coffee, if you'd rather).
you can contact me through my drupal contact form. or through e- mail via

Where oh where is everyone?
Well, I was late and redirected to Caribou at 17th and L. (I had started from 17th and M, so it's been a good workout so far.) Caribou, of course, is closed, so I'm sitting outside hoping against hope that people re-relocated and will magically discover this message.
If you see this, give me a buzz at 202-329-0183. It's oh 2:24 now!
Thanks,
Charlie
Kudos to Andy...
... for spotting me alone and shivering on the corner, like the little match girl with a laptop.
Good meeting! Very happy to see faces old and new.

confused
Well I can say I was confused as to where we were meeting. Is there a way to make it clearer to everyone? Or am I the only one who didn't know exactly when and where. There was so much discussion back and forth I never really understood where and when.
I plan to be at the next one for sure
