User group meeting

We're meeting again in Echo Park at the offices of at Digital Playspace on July 21st, 2010. Please join us!

Attending the LA Drupal meetups is one of the best ways to meet and talk with other Drupaleros. Whether it's about finding solutions to problems you've been having, sharing something you've learned or just meeting interesting like-minded people, the LA Drupal meetups are an essential resource for Drupal professionals and hobbyists alike. At this meetup there will be several presentations as well as time for open discussions and job announcements. Several of us may be going to a local bar or restaurant afterward.

This event is free – in fact, there will be raffle prizes and food and drinks will be provided – and no RSVP is required. In order to have enough food for everyone, though, we need to know how many people will be attending so please sign up by logging in and clicking the Sign up button below. Knowing how many people are interested in attending helps us better select good locations in the future and those who sign up will also have last minute details (if there are any) sent to them before the meeting.

When: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 7:00-9:00pm
Where: Digital Playspace, in Echo Park (Los Angeles) at 1217 Bellevue Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90026

Agenda

If you'd like to give a presentation, announce a job position or ask any questions of the group, please come a few minutes early or leave a comment below. If presenting, be sure to bring your laptop (and power and display cables) and whatever else you need.

   Job announcements and open Q&A

Everyone has a problem every now and then and the open Q&A session is a chance for attendees to divine answers from the collective wisdom of the group. This is also an opportunity for local businesses to make job announcements and ask for referrals and recommendations.

   Raffle! Prizes! Collect them all!

We love our sponsors and have several raffle prizes from our sponsors in the Los Angeles area and around the world. If you or your company would like to sponsor a raffle prize at the LA Drupal meetups, please come early or contact the LA Drupal managers at managers at ladrupal.org.

   Drupal 7 demonstration and discussion

Did you know that the functionality found in up to 50 modules for Drupal 6, from Poorman's Cron and 404 Blocks to Login Security and User Cancel, have been included in Drupal 7? We'll have a demonstration and discussion so that you know what to expect when Drupal 7 is released later this year.

   Test-driven development

The SimpleTest unit testing framework is now part of Drupal 7. Find out how Drupal 7 will be the most stable release of Drupal in its entire history and how contributed modules are catching up on including tests and what this means to you.

   Lightning talks

We have time as well for lightning talks, which are 5-10 minute presentations from attendees who would like to share something with the group. If you'd like to give a lightning talk, be sure to come a few minutes early and bring your laptop (and power and display cables) and whatever else you need.

As always, please feel welcome to leave a comment below and let others know what you'd like to present ahead of time.

Drupal After Dark

Only local images are allowed. The meetups in Echo Park have tended to run a little long and this time we've got to be out the door by 9pm. Fortunately, Masa of Echo Park Only local images are allowed. is an old favorite and is close by.

Even if you can't make it to the meetup, feel free to join us later at Masa at 1800 West Sunset Blvd. (on the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Logan St.). Their phone number is (213) 989-1558.

Masa has fun area with living room furniture that seats 6-8 that we can reserve if we call early enough. They have a nice menu, Guinness on draught and the best deep dish pizza in Los Angeles.

Dodger game tonight

Techivist's picture

Give yourselves a bit more time to arrive as there's a Dodger game going on tonight. Good news is that we've got to be out of Digital Playspace by 9pm so you won't be affected by the traffic of the folks leaving the game (as it'll end after 10pm).

Cya folks there or afterwards at Masa for the Drupal After Dark.
