I really got a lot out of tonight's meeting. Christefano's presentation on shared hosting and VPS hosting was excellent. Afterward, I went on to yougetsignal.com to check out how many other websites I share on my IP address -- and would you believe, it was 868 sites, and some of them quite "off-color"! Just more reason to go to VPS right now, and I have much more confidence I can make the switch easily after tonight's presentation.
The "Bird of a Feather" breakout groups were wonderful. I learned so much at the High Performance group, and I finally felt I participated in a Drupal discussion after a year at the meetings! I think the breakout groups idea is excellent -- please continue and expand it.

Women at Drupal meetings
After the Drupal meeting on Tuesday, I finally felt more comfortable than the whole year I've been coming to the Drupal meetups. And then I went home and went on the Drupal Groups page and found the posts about comments Dries made at the Copenhagen Drupalcon that could be construed as sexist. This discussion thread has been going on for days now and is quite insightful.
I just thought I would post the comment webchick just made about her early experiences in hope of sparking a discussion here in LA about women and the Drupal community.

Dries has said he was waiting
Dries has said he was waiting to post a DrupalCon CPH wrapup on his site until the video of the keynote was available, so I've held off on talking about this, too. It didn't make sense to talk about it in detail until people could see the video themselves. The video has just been posted and I transcribed the part in question.
The controversial part regarding gender balance in the Drupal community is around timecode 27:30. To make the transcript a little more readable, I took out the umms, you knows and so on.
Christefano here again. I like Dries' vision of Drupal in 2020 and agree that gender balance in the Drupal community is a hot topic, but I don't agree with the delivery of his vision in this keynote. Yeah, it could have been worded more carefully and it was a little clumsy at best and insensitive at worst, but I'm giving Dries the benefit of the doubt here. Public speaking is difficult, and when he talked about "our mothers and their brothers" and "the low end as well as the high end" I believe he was pointing out the ends of the various spectrums rather than assigning labels.

Recording/Notes of Christefano's Presentation
Did anyone happen to get a recording of Christefano's presentation on shared hosting and VPS hosting? I was held up and was not able to make the meet up. Out of all the meet ups, this was the one that I REALLY needed and wanted to hear. If anyone has any good notes or if there is a slim chance it was recorded I would be happy if you could share. Or maybe Christefano wouldn't mind sharing his outline if there was one? I would take anything at this point.
Thanks,
JayVGee
I don't have an outline but
I don't have an outline but there is a video somewhere. I'll check with people on this when I see them on Tuesday.
