Hello - I live in Des Moines and have started a missing pets web site and would like to install a proximity filter.

I have tried:

Location module - spent maybe 30 hours trying to configure. no idea what I am doing wrong. One thing which I would like to avoid if possible is the need to maintain a zipcode database, it seems a source of trouble.

Openlayers - seems a popular module but the proximity module has very little activity, and I can not find a single tutorial.

Geo - tried to install, got what seems to be a common error message.

I would appreciate any solid tuotrials, site examples, or just being told it is impossible, which I think is not at all the case. I know it exists!

Thank you.

This can be accomplished with

This can be accomplished with a combination of the Location, Views, and the Gmap module. At what point are you having issues? Is it just a matter of getting a proximity search to work correctly with Location?

I have all those modules installed. I can make a nice map appear inside a node, I am guessing the problem is the database or the filter.

I am using phpMyAdmin to update the zipcode table so it will probably be uplodaed in at least 10 stages, which is fine if it works, but for testing I uploaded maybe 20% of the database. I stuck in a couple nodes with a zip in the database, tried to filter for it and no result.

I thought when I first tried in July there was something about the longitude and latitude columns being inverted or something else in the mySQL zipcode table contained in the Location module or perhaps the table column headers themselves but I don't know if that is true or is fixed.

Can't attach screen shots but I posted them.

1 - A node, which I think shows GMap and Location are working
2- The View
3 - The View proximity filter

Any ideas? Thanks.

figured it out

Checked the location table and the long / lat there did not match the zipcode table.

Turns out google maps placed Portsmouth NH 00211 in England (I think). Adding a street name fixed google maps so both had the same long / lat.

Still dread importing the entire zip code database, I think another module might do better, but this is a huge relief.
