Collaborate with the Drupal community

This site serves the Drupal community by providing a place for groups to organize, plan and work on projects. Real world local user groups (sometimes called meetups) and regional Drupalcamps in particular are encouraged to setup their online presence here.

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Vision for a new support.drupal.org - share your ideas and expertise

The http://groups.drupal.org/support-infrastructure group was created to focus discussion and, hopefully, development. There's been a lot of ad hoc discussion so far, in various places. We want to focus that energy.

So far, davidhernandez has started a wiki page at http://groups.drupal.org/node/133494 outlining some fundamental goals — namely to replace the forums as a support center with something much more effective and useful. (It's a wiki! Be bold!)

Wake up community - Wordpress.org should scare you!

Drupal is quickly becoming a product where less and less custom coding will be required for new sites. With modules such as Views, Panels and Webform combined with advanced, and user friendly, themes, sites will be possible to build without knowing anything about coding in PHP etc. Drupal Gardens and Buzzr are great examples of this. Distributions is also making site building much easier to get started without coding.

Hosting companies are making Drupal very easy to install with just a few clicks. I'm not talking about the traditional one-click installs of old versions. Now these companies understand that providing good Drupal support gives them en edge on the market.

I think that we do realise that this is going to attract the same kind of users that today download and install WordPress. A lot of these new users will have very limited coding skills. In fact, most them couldn't care less about it. The only thing they are interested in is to get a software they quickly can build a site with.

Unfortunately most of these new users will run away from Drupal!

This is why:

Butler in Chicago

I'm a bit late in getting this out, but such is life when moving and attending a wedding. :-)

We had a good Core Conversation on Butler in Chicago. Sadly Dries ended up not being able to attend, but just about everyone else was on board with the roadmap. The roadmap itself hasn't changed much since Copenhagen, but things are moving again. There was also considerable talk of very, very interesting tie-ins to the configuration/deployment core initiatives, as having a more robust pre-database configuration option should help resolve a lot of the challenges we were looking at.

Slides from the presentation are attached below.

Drupal.org Scheduled Downtime Thursday, February 24, 23:00 UTC

Reposted from the Drupal.org Front page to be available during downtime. During down time, check https://twitter.com/drupalgitgremln for periodic updates.

Drupal.org will have approximately 12 hours of scheduled downtime, Thursday, February 24, 23:00 UTC (3PM PST, 6PM EST). We will be performing the CVS to Git migration. This is the most comprehensive and extensive change to Drupal.org in recent history - perhaps ever, therefore, the Infrastructure & Git Migration teams need an adequate time buffer to perform the migration, verify the data, and check for and resolve any issues.

What does “downtime” mean?

The following parts of the *.drupal.org will be inaccessible for the duration of the migration:

  • The main drupal.org website, including all download pages, issue queues, forums, and search.
  • Write access to cvs.drupal.org.
  • Account creation on any of the Drupal.org sub-sites, including groups.drupal.org, api.drupal.org, and chicago2011.drupal.org.

Some areas of the drupal.org infrastructure remain unaffected, including:

  • Drush commands such as drush dl.
  • Read-only access to cvs.drupal.org. CVS repositories will be maintained in read-only mode for at least a year following the migration.

We regret that it was not feasible to provide a read-only copy during the downtime and apologize for the inconvenience this extended downtime will cause to the community, but it’s hard to overstate the incredible transformation this move will enable for our community’s collaboration. With Drupal 8 development kicking off soon, and code sprints happening in DrupalCon Chicago in just over a week, having a strong platform from which to work is vital for our project’s future.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. Please keep your eyes on https://twitter.com/drupalgitgremln and http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-org-git-migration-team for updates.

2011-06-11 09:00 - 2011-06-12 17:00 UTC
Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

Howdy folks!

Very exciting news here that Drupalcamp Colorado will be June 11th and 12th at Denver's King Center facility on the Auraria campus (next door to the building where it was in 2010).

After a 300+ turnout last year we hope to have 400 people this year and have a limit of about 500. Can we sell out again?

The official camp site is http://2011.drupalcampcolorado.org/

Announcements will also be posted here as we get close to ticket sales, session submission, session voting, and schedule announcement.

Yay Colorado!
