Facebook Integration possible ?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I was wondering how facebook integration works with a drupal site. I am trying to evaluate the fbconnect module and I know I have to make some modifications to make it work with drupal 5.x as my Cougar Women dating site is a drupal 5.x site. I would like to know if it is worth pursuing a facebook integration. How will that work being that a facebook user's profile will not contain all the necessary data points I need to have which are applicable to my site.

Also I was thinking about posting this in the fbconnect module issue, but I realize that this is not a technical question rather a concept / approach based answer I am looking for in the world of social networking. If I posted this in the wrong group I would appreciate if someone can suggest the right group. Thanks.

fbconnect

I just added it to http://beavertonbahai.org/ and it seems to be working well. Of course that site is done with drupal 6. My guess is that you will run into difficulties making something like this module work with drupal 5 since it is written for drupal 6. Have you considered migrating your site to drupal 6?

Thanks drgoplayer. Your site

Thanks drgoplayer. Your site is nicely done. I did see the fbconnect icon in the create account page. I do think I need to do a deep dive to see if I can make fbconnect / or similar module work for drupal 5 as upgrading is not an option at this time.

I agree that upgrading to D6

I agree that upgrading to D6 would probably be less of a headache than trying to backport the fbconnect module. Is there a particular reason you're unable to upgrade?

Well, I have not made

Well, I have not made fbconnect that high of a priority yet to consider upgrading the entire site. If I start to put effort into it I don't think it would be that hard to make it work, although it may result in some undesirable hacks (hopefully not in core). Plus the VPS this site is currently on is meant to run only d5 for me, as it has limited remaining headroom on the RAM and I don't want additional d6 opcode cache (from xcache) to use up the remaining memory space. There are other d5 sites on this VPS that will not be upgraded.
