Hey everyone!
A quick status update to let y'all know where we're at.
If you've put your name on the wiki as a volunteer and no one has contact you yet, don't worry, we will!
- We'll soon have a conference website
- Scott Morgan has volunteered to be our t-shirt wrangler
- Mike Cantelon is helping with the website (between Open Web and work commitments)
- We have a money management angel (thanks Raincity!)
- Sponsorship is firming up nicely
- Still trying to get locations 100% nailed down
Interesting discussion with Mack Hardy about barn raising:
- To work properly we need a fully rounded team (IA/graphics/theming/backend), could we assemble one?
- How do we find an organization that is a good fit to the event?
(For example, we wouldn't want to build a site for an organization and then leave them high and dry after the event because they needed coaching on how to use their new site) - Would creating a new feature or doing a make-over for an existing site be a better idea?
- Would creating a non-profit install profile be a better idea?
- Will people be interested in a barn raising if it keeps them away from presentations?
Side note: Congratulations to Mack as he prepares for his honeymoon!!!
Wanted Immediately:
- Graphic Designers come on down! We need a cool event logo
- Party/event organizers wanted for a Thursday night social and other potential mixers
Have a cool idea you haven't seen and you're willing to manage it? Yell out!
Updated: That's Scott Morgan, not Steve. (Sorry Scott)

Hey Dale, et al,
I can help you out with that.
Cheers!

throwing my hat in the ring
Throwing my hat in the ring in regards to the event logo with malcolm8, we could do a bit of photoshop tennis or the like.
I'm all for calling it VADER Camp (Vancouver Area 'DrupalER' Camp) and using that sweet Raincity Vader t-shirt :)
I think the suggestion of build a non-profit install profile is a fantastic idea and I think it's definitely an option but do most non-profits have the expertise to run a drupal install? Would the profile just go unused?
I think most non-profits, due to budgets, lack a well designed site or are missing functionality they really need.
Maybe a quick theme makeover of an existing drupal site or some consultation time with a few Drupal Gods about what modules to install for some badly needed functionality would be the best way to go. I'm not "up" on the Vancouver non-profits, being still sort of a Vancouver n00b so if anyone knows of a pretty ugly(oxymoron!) Drupal non-profit then please shout out.
Cheers.

Call for Speakers?
I'm interested in flying in from Lethbridge to speak and assist where possible. I've placed two emails already through drupalcampvancouver.org with no response yet. Are you guys super swamped at the moment? I need enough lead time to get my travel arrangements in gear...

Call for Speakers?
Michael:
It might have been your Chucky avatar that frightened people off. What kind of information do you need? Accommodation recommendations, billeting, directions, schedule? The conference is on. We'll be meeting at two sites in the vicinity of the Waterfront SkyTrain station and nearby in Gastown.

Thanks Scott. Chucky avatar?
Thanks Scott.
Chucky avatar? Oh, he's much more badass than Chucky :-)
I was able to piece together the missing info through this groups.drupal.org, the drupalcampvancouver site and a blog post on Rain City's site.
Basically, I'm interested in presenting - but wasn't sure what topics were needing the most attention. I lead the web team at the University of Lethbridge, and we've just made a switch to Drupal late last year. Our first internally produced site is http://www.uleth.ca/finearts - all Drupal powered. I thought maybe a case study on using Drupal in an Enterprise / Educational Institution might be a good topic - or simply doing something more technical based on the same project.
I now see that the requests for speakers / topics is pretty much blind, with chosen topics notified May 1. So instead of sending emails asking for topic suggestions, I'll submit a formal topic and hope for the best!

Good topic
Hey Michael,
I think your topic idea of "using Drupal in an Enterprise / Educational Institution" would be a good one as a number of our team would probably be interested in attending as we're presently working on a couple different projects for universities using Drupal and are just about to start on a couple more.

Thanks, I'll Submit it!
Hey Glenn,
I'll put a formal outline together tomorrow and send it on. I know I could flush out a solid talk around our experience at the U of L.
I've seen the work your team did for Arizona State, great job!

Submitting your topic...
Great glad to here you're submitting that Michael. Hopefully the organizers will go for it as I know we'd be interested in hearing from your experiences on this one.

I'm Out
Well, it appears Drupal Camp Vancouver is now sold out.
I wasn't contacted (after emailing twice) regarding my talk - so I'm not coming. Too bad for both of us I guess.

no reason to be a prima
no reason to be a prima donna about it. if the organizers are anything like the majority of drupal developers, they're as busy as hell...
Let me explain a little
Let me explain a little better.
I wanted to attend Drupal Camp Vancouver from out of town. People in my situation need advance information to make decisions (like travel) with.
My deal made with my management is that they would pickup my travel expenses IF I was a speaker.
No confirmation = lost opportunity for me.
Hey Michael, I just got back
Hey Michael,
I just got back from a weekend away. I just checked the schedule (http://www.drupalcampvancouver.org/sessions) and saw that you have a session on there (http://www.drupalcampvancouver.org/node/47) so maybe you didn't get the communications from the organizers?

Thanks,
I got my first communication yesterday afternoon ( I didn't see it as I was in Montana for the day). Looks like we are a go! Just getting my travel stuff in order.

An Organizer Surfaces
Michael, apologies for not communicating with you. Mea culpa, my fault. A missed email and a crossed wire with the other organizers. It's tres cool having interested from as far afield as Lethbridge.
Hopefully you can still make it even with the short notice you'll have. If not, it looks like we'll miss out on an interesting presentation.
No worries!
No Worries!
I'm working the system as fast as I can to ensure I've got Air, and car ready to go. I'm quite excited to meet everybody!
