Case Tracker, Services and Timesheets

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I like Case Tracker because it is Drupal. It has some weirdities, but otherwise it's a good baseline and I've extended it pretty easily with cck and views and it's really starting to hum. So I thought it was time to share where I'm at with Case Tracker.

I tried Organic Groups integration with Case Tracker in an earlier trial (my current support site is the 4th and final attempt). I have a client node-type and I use the CCK node reference module to link projects to clients. I then have half a module worth of glue code to improve navigation and usability.

I also have two modules that I use to extend Case Tracker:

Case Tracker Services (beta) allows my customers to review, add and comment on cases from their own site - with all data stored on my support site and displayed dynamically in their site using the services module.

Case Tracker Work (alpha) is a basic work/time recording module. It's nothing special but I'm trying to get it thorough with good views support and some nice timesheet displays for the beta.

Hope this is useful
Simon

Casetracker keeps bubbling up it seems, it wasn't always actively maintained but it seems to be in good hands again. Case Tracker Work definately sounds useful. Are you still using OG in your setup or not anymore?

No, not anymore. I like OG

No, not anymore. I like OG and we recently created a site using it, but for project/case management I felt that it was over-featured for us - we wanted tighter control of groups, so it became unnecessary.

Also, we've made the decision not to allow clients to access our support site directly, but rather through casetracker_services - which is a more predictable access-control regime since casetracker_services strictly limits case access based on allowed projects per client site.

Great work!

Great work, Simon, on these improvements. Thanks so much for sharing your progress. I've used CaseTracker (CT) a little, and wanted to use it much more. I shared similar discussions with others in the Boston Group, so I know there are others who share our interest in just this sort of non-software project management solution.

With respect to OG, one of the next things I wanted to do was to take the basic Project content type that CT creates and define it as one of the possible group home pages. That way, an OG could be based on a give project, and discussions could be directly tied to that project.

Has anyone done this with CT and OG?

I'm not currently using OG,

I'm not currently using OG, but I'm quite certain that this is the way to configure things. The thing to remember is that the casetracker basic project isn't remarkable in itself, you can use any node type as a project and you can use any node type as an OG home page.

A tip about OG, (on other jobs) we've used http://drupal.org/project/stringoverrides to replace "Group" with "Project".

Awesome

The time tracking with Case Tracker is something I am looking at for an upcoming project. Although I may be new to Drupal, if you need help, just ask.

Nice knowing people using Case Tracker

it is always nice to know that people are using Case Tracker ansd how they are using it.

As many drupal (module) developers I'm maintaining it in my (always to short) free time.
We're using it on my dayjob also (that's 1 reason why I took it over).

There we are having multiple projects combined with a end user & business support user team.
We are not using OG (I did implement OG support) but are heavely using Views & custom theming.

You should keep an eye on the Case Tracker module because I'm woring on some extra features who are gona be released soon...

OG Integration

I think the module is definitely useful, but I've got my site set up to create a new organic group for every new CT project. Naturally I'd like each task (case) generated within that OG to have a default value of the current project. Is there any way to do this?

Case Tracker - future release

Hi Zero2one. Thanks for your work on CT. Please when do you think the new version will be released? Also it would be nice to know what the extra features are. Thanks
