Just a friendly reminder that this WEDNESDAY (November 10) is the date of our monthly Portland Drupal User Group Meeting.
The meeting features two terrific presentations on the agenda:
1. "Understanding Drupal 7 API and Theming Changes" presented by Todd Tomlinson
Confused about the important API changes in Drupal 7? Want to get up to speed fast on Drupal 7 theming improvements? In this presentation, Drupal author Todd Tomlinson is back to tackle both back-end and front-end enhancements in D7.
For those who may not know, Todd is the author of two important Drupal books: 'Beginning Drupal 7' (released June 1, 2010) and 'Pro Drupal Development for Drupal 7' (due in late November, previous editions of this book have been considered the "bible" for Drupal developers). Todd is also currently leading the creation of 12 major Drupal sites around the country, including a big site for the University of Texas. It's a great opportunity to dramatically enhance your Drupal 7 learning curve by learning from someone who literally just wrote the book on the topic.
2. "If Lovin' Userpoints is Wrong, I Don't Want to Be Right!" presented by Ben Kaplan
Have you ever wanted to award "points" to your users to build up site loyalty? How about allowing them to "spend" points on special site features? Or perhaps even develop your own full-fledged virtual currency system? Userpoints module (http://drupal.org/project/userpoints) can do all of this and much more.
For the past 3-4 months I've been working extensively on improving Userpoints. We've given Userpoints the full Botox and liposuction treatment, making the module much more user friendly, visually appealing, and streamlined than prior versions. We've also gone under the hood to make the module far more powerful than ever before. In this presentation, I'll demo the latest version of Userpoints and show off the most impressive changes. I'll also demo how some related contributed modules can make Userpoints really shine.
