We had the (we think) first-ever Baton Rouge meetup for the Louisiana Drupal Users Group on Thursday, November 4 at The Pastime in downtown Baton Rouge. bberlin, jeffdiecks and schmook attended.
We discussed growing the group the old fashioned way, by each attempting to bring a friend to a future meetup and beginning to create some consistency and momentum behind the group. We noted that New Orleans likely missed out on a very real opportunity to host DrupalCon 2012 due to the lack of a strong local Drupal community.
We plan to continue meetups on the first Thursday of each month, perhaps alternating between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. We'll plan to be in New Orleans for the December meetup (Eric: chime in if you have decided on a location).
We reviewed some recent work and Drupal tricks including:
-Node relationships module (blog post here http://www.agileapproach.com/blog-entry/improve-content-creation-and-ass... )
-Custom google map and pins
-Burns & Company real estate site
-Open Atrium with custom time tracking module
-Eric gave overviews of a few sites, including this one http://www.domenicapizzeria.com/ which uses Drupal and Ubercart for ordering upscale pizza online (delivering the orders to an iPad in the kitchen!)
For Brian: here are some links on how to contribute to Drupal/get involved

See y'all on Dec. 2 in New Orleans!

Count me in for New Orleans
Sorry I couldn't attend first meeting. I will plan on attending in New Orleans. IMO Sat. meetings are better to accommodate travel that can probably wait until a few more people from both cities participate.
Let me know where and I'll be there
Drupal Meetup
I had a good time, and it was good to meet some other drupal developers. Amazing what you can learn talking about drupal while having a couple drinks. I'll definitely be coming to new orleans!
Worth the drive!
It is always good to have a fresh perspective on Drupal and implementation! And I did end up switching from 'Popup: Reference and Add' to 'Node Relationships' and 'Modal Frame API' on a project going live this week...works very nice!.
I will start another thread about location for Dec 2nd. I'll bring my partner (the Designer) along, she went to DrupalCon SF. Let's make the 1st New Orleans meeting a loose meet and greet, then look to January for a topic to discuss.
