Hello Guys,

I just would like to inform you that Open Source Foundation, Nigeria has been launched. We have been having a lot of problems with the right domain name otherwise we would have gotten one. Your suggestions are needed.

You might want to know that the Nigeria Drupal Community webpage is up and running so just register, put up issues, solutions and write about your experience with drupal and put on there. The url is http://community.drupalnigeria.org and don't forget to invite your friends also. Just so that you know, we are still trying to come up with a better drupal Nigeria website so if you're a graphic artist, theme developer and willing to help out please get in touch with Kayode Odeyemi at kayode.odeyemi@drupalnigeria.org.

At the moment we are planning a series of open source events for 2011. The events at hand are as follows:

  • Drupal Conference
  • Drupal Camp
  • LinuxFest
  • GeekFest
  • Code Jam
  • Plone Camp
  • Open Source Conference

Each of this events requires volunteers and people to work in various committees. Should you be interested in playing any role, kindly send an email including your name to support@drupalnigeria.org You could also include suggestions about other events

Hello guys,

We have received a number of emails from enthusiasts about the upcoming events. We would create a google group to facilitate easier communication among us all.

For those that have sent in emails, expect replies soonest

Let's keep it coming.

I really don't know why we

drecute's picture

I really don't know why we want to duplicate content. I mean I don't see anything wrong with g.d.o. I think we can focus our energy more on the projects we have at hand.

Duplicating content?

aniediudo's picture

Is your post specifically directed @murpheus or for everyone in the group? Where is g.d.o Nigeria content being duplicated? Or are you referring to projects being done by the entire group or just murpheus? A clarification could really help in getting us focussed. Cheers

I think what he meant is why

jpoesen's picture

I think what he meant is why use google groups as a platform and not just keep the organization effort here on g.d.o.

@chillpill What I'm saying in

drecute's picture

@chillpill What I'm saying in a nutshell is instead of moving to google groups or any other project collaboration environment, I don't see anything wrong with using g.d.o. I believe we are already getting momemtum here. Why move to different platform and start afresh.

As it concerns projects, I mean projects as it concerns open source community development which is what the Open Source Foundation, Nigeria will be all about.

t: @charyorde

I agree with you

aniediudo's picture

@drecute: I agree with you 110%. g.d.o is the best platform for this interaction & collaboration to happen. Social media 'fragmentation' is a big issue these days & with OSF coming up & DrupalNigeria already in place, the last thing we need is 'another' profile to keep up with.

@murpheus: Please let's kill the idea.

Thanks Ya'al

Thanks for the messages.

Since the community has suggested that we scrap the idea of a google group, then so be it. By the way, Aniedi Udo has offered to pay for the first year subscription of Open Source Foundation, Nigeria domain name by Monday 6th December, 2010. After deliberating over the name, we have settled for http://osf.org.ng

Please if you have any objection to this, kindly comment here before Monday otherwise we are sticking to the domain name.

Just a suggestion

@murpheus
how about osfnigeria.org, since we already have drupalnigeira.org.

just a thought

Thanks for the suggestion

Hello Tokunbo,

The reason for buying drupalnigeria.org in the first place is simply because we were not sure of the Nigerian ccTLD. We are looking at changing the domain name in the nearest future to a Nigerian related name.

Hello Guys,

We were able to buy the domain http://osf.org.ng courtesy Aniedi Udo-Obong. I personally think he deserves an applaud :). We are looking at deploying the site soonest. Kayode informed me that he could start work with it as soon as possible and hope that he would get help from the community. For those who are new to Drupal, this is an opportunity to get some experience in learning the practicalities of modules and developing themes. Should you be interested, you can contact Kayode at kayode.odeyemi@drupalnigeria.org

Once again, a very big thank you to Aniedi Udo-Obong for the domain payment.

Good work, murpheus! Kudos, Aniedi!!
