Hey all!
I'm going to be delivering some private Drupal training in Pittsburgh a few days next week and I'd love to hang out with some Drupalers in the area! With the schedule I have, my only hang out opportunity is Wednesday the 8th
I'm staying at the Days Inn at 1150 Banksville Road
Who's up for dinner that night? I'd really like someplace local that is unique. I've never been to Pittsburgh before!
THANKS!

I'm no longer sore about that play in January 15 2007 when Ben Roethlisberger tackled Colts Defensive Back, Nick Harper, after Nick had just recovered a Jerome Bettis fumble, THUS ending our SuperBowl hopes.
[Yes, I still remember the still images on the front of the local paper... An image of Ben on his back, on the ground, with his arms reaching out and grabbing Nicks foot] http://www.bestsportsphotos.com/product.php?productid=23118&cat=634&page=5

Would totally have been up
Would totally have been up for dinner, but unfortunately I'm not coming back home for another visit until December 20.
If you are looking for places to eat, though, I can give a few suggestions
Hope you have a good time!
local, unique eating
Primanti Brothers Restaurant is widely considered to be a signature restaurant for Pittsburgh with its "Almost Famous" sandwich that puts the french fries in the sandwich. It always gets talked about on national TV when famous people come here for the first time or when the Steelers are in a super bowl or when the G20 was here, etc. They have several locations, including one downtown. --- Since their sandwich is laden with meat and I try to eat vegetarian, I've never eaten there myself.
Isaly's is another Pittsburgh original which brought the world Klondikes, Chipped Chopped Ham and Skyscraper Cones. At one time the Islay's deli/ icecream parlors extended as far as Iowa, but today the last few remaining are in the Pittsburgh area. The most authentic is in West View, very near the City. As a kid it was always a treat to eat at Islay's. I seem to remember they also had delicious coleslaw too.
Mitchell's, downtown Pittsburgh, has been around for over 100 years. I've not eaten there for dinner, but I've attended several environmental group events there and it has been good. I can't say if it is unique, but it has been a successful Pittsburgh institution for a long time.
I'll ask around for some suggestions from others. My calendar is open for Wednesday, so I should be available. If you have time, I'd be happy to show you around and give you some history of the area. Some of my family history goes back to before the City of Pittsburgh, to the days of Fort Pitt. One of my great grandfathers came over to Pittsburgh later and moved in with young Andrew Carnegie and his family when Andy was a teen. My dad came to the City of Bridges after graduating college as a structural civil engineer and eventually was in charge of all of Allegheny County's bridges. I have been involved with public issues for decades and know a good bit about what's really going on behind the glitzy facade which the region's promoters like to put on.

THNX!
Had a blast!
Big Thanks to David!
I travel a lot. I wish there was a David in each town that could show me the places that I'd never randomly encounter.
The double wide was seriously cool! Most of you probably know that's the old gas station turned into a swanky diner.
THNX DAVID!!

Sorry I missed you
I was out for large parts of December, but def give a shout if/when you come to town again, as I'd also like to show you around. And it sounds like I should have David show me around. ;)
