Hey everyone! Just saw in my RSS feed that Drupal 7 is going to be released probably-for-sure on January 5th, 2010. Joedully and I were discussing how it would be nice to meet at Evos in Ashland and have a general "Drupal 7 and Open Source Rules" rally. Please post thoughts and ideas here, as it would be nice to see this happen.
Before the end of the year, based on the feedback here, I will volunteer my time to help with the organization of the gathering/meeting. Please let me know if there are any special requests. Drupal 7 is fairly cool, and has lots of promise. Lets spark some open source thoughts and ideas in Ashland by meeting and having the kind of conversations we need to be having.

Is there any interest in this? This will be as low/medium/high scale as necessary. Looks like it might be a small party? Would anyone like to help organize?
I will attend
Evos is a great place for a few folks to get together and they have wifi. Hopefully it will not be raining as the large outdoor area is not covered, and inside is a bit small for 10 people or more.

Its looking like Evos will be the place. Even if its just a few people, that's fine. I launched a new site with Drupal 7 using a stock theme just to try it out - www.ashlandtaichi.com - its feeling good.

Should we move this to Friday to coincide with the other Drupal 7 celebrations? It would be great to add Southern Oregon to the official list of parties.
I am working on a Drupal 7 website now for one of my own projects. There is definitely a learning curve and there are some missing modules that will add to the challenge.
Black Sheep is another good location for a meeting that has plenty of space, is open later than Evos, has wifi, and Beer!

Any other ideas? The main document suggested we could have a projector displaying a big Drupal icon on the wall. Unfortunately I didn't get that mini projector that was on woot.com a while back. Any thematic ideas or other feedback on what could happen?
Lets keep an alignment about the purpose of this to be the launch of Drupal 7, how it will benefit everyone in the Drupal ecosystem, our community, and each one of us.

Drupal 7 is officially released. That's great news. Lets make Friday a big success. I am proposing that we do 2 minute presentations and go around the circle in our meeting. Talk about you, your company, or your Drupal 7 plans/contributions/perspectives.
