I am fairly new to drupal and I am attempting to build a very complex group of sites that I fear has gotten over my head. I need it to work like scout.com which has multiple schools on there each with there own forums, and galleries, and so on. I have a drupal install with subdirectories that also have drupal installs. part of my problem is that each one has its own database. so users have to login to each site separately. I tried using the multi-site module but it requires symlinks and my service provider (netfirms) doesnt support them. also i am having trouble with my social media integration. Is there anyone around who thinks they could help me out with this site? I could possibly even provide some compensation for your time. I am from wexford so if anyone else is from up north let me know. look forward to hearing from you guys, its great to have support for drupal in the area. please feel free to contact me directly through my email bjc5070@gmail.com.

thanks
Brendan

Welcome to Drupal!

Hi Brendan!

My first question would be: do you really want separate sites? There are many modules that help create groups in Drupal, the best known being Organic Groups http://drupal.org/project/og. This might support your needs better.

If you need to keep track of many people and email them via groups, you may want to also use CiviCRM http://civicrm.org/ and it's Organic Groups compatibility module that will e.g., create mailing lists from groups, etc.

I probably don't have a lot of time to help, but can answer some questions - and hopefully others in this group can help, too.

Not only could you have different colors, you could have different themes. See e.g., http://drupal.org/node/307828

For more, see http://www.google.com/search?channel=fs&q=organic+groups+themes (the video there may be a good intro)

I haven't done any Drupal Theming - I'm more a back-end, security, performance and CiviCRM guy.

Maybe someone else on this list?

I've not used Organic Groups,

I've not used Organic Groups, but I did a short tutorial of how to create themes. It is for Drupal 7, but much of the same applies if you are using Drupal 6.
