Time?

BrendanG's picture

Thanks for taking the time to organize this, but unfortunately I can't make it, I'm out thawing out in Florida 2/7-2/16. Also, do you intend on 7am? Seems the stereotypical techie/programmer would much prefer an evening time.

oh c'mon now

emjayess's picture

what's wrong with 7AM?! srsly. geez.

Could get wild

djschwartz's picture

I was kinda thinking about coming to check this out. However it seems like it might be two of us. I'm new enough to Drupal that I was going to come along mostly to listen and see what others are doing as I won't have much to share for my own Drupal work. If only two of us show up that could get a little wild, don't you think?

ps - Atomic Coffee in Moorhead (i94 & 8th St.) has good beer on tap but I suppose they don't have a back meeting room...

out of control, for sure

emjayess's picture

Oh, it will be completely out of control, I'm certain... even if it is just me! ha.

Seriously tho, if you are at all interested in Drupal and want to help get some momentum going with this group, c'mon out. Format is open. I'll pull up a new little pet project I'm working on -- which is incredibly simple at this point. I've only spent a few hours on it, so that will probably take all of 5 minutes (heh). I'm intentionally leaving the format open, and hoping to hear a bit about what others want to learn, see, share, and do at these meetups.

P.S. libations, locations etc.

emjayess's picture

P.S. Atomic downtown Fargo doesn't have the same selection as Atomic in Moorhead, but they do have a few bottled beers and some wine, in addition to the usual coffee drinks, etc.

I anticipate moving these user group meetups around from month to month, too. So suggestions for other venues are definitely welcome. I've thought about Stokers (basement of the HoDo) and the Gastropub down south, and I've mentioned doing a meeting in Grand Forks soon as well - perhaps even in March.

I'm gonna try to come and

I'm gonna try to come and talk Linds into joining me :P She's shown interest in Drupal previously, but it's hard to keep her focused :P

2nd Tuesday at 7pm :(

jtandy's picture

My wife and I are learning about Drupal and loving it, and we'd love to meet up with other people in the area that don't just give us a blank stare when we start talking about how cool this CMS is. (then we have to start to explain what a CMS is and then it just gets awkward)

But... at 7pm on Feb 8th we're attending a SCORE workshop on starting a new business (so many things to learn!), so we won't be making this one. I just wanted to chime in and let you guys know that there are a few other people in the area that are looking forward to sitting down with the rest of you and seeing what's up. Thanks to emjayess for taking the initiative, and I hope to see you at one of these.

Oh, for what it's worth: I've got a site up live at fmhomecomputer.com. You'll all laugh when you see the default theme, right down to the favicon. It was supposed to be our sandbox but our friend the owner liked it as is.

Good to hear from you

emjayess's picture

Good to hear from you jtandy! My intention for starting to promote this group and arrange meetups is to get some area Drupalers to poke their heads out of the woodwork -- or snowbanks, as it may be. I know there are more! I also expect it'll take a few months to iron out the best days and times for the most interested of us to meet up.

As for the awkward moments... been there, done that. If you follow the drupal [consulting] mailing list, there is/was a recent thread regarding using Drupal verbiage versus generic descriptions of services in marketing materials, etc.

Unfortunately I wasn't aware of the SCORE workshop when I set this up. Are you launching a new biz venture? Congrats. I'd love to hear more about that sometime.

EVENT UPDATE: Minor Time Slot Discrepancy

emjayess's picture

I will be at Atomic by 7pm ready to talk about all things Drupal. We can't move in to the group meeting room until ~8:45 due to a scheduling conflict and yours truly forgetting to confirm a reservation (my bad!) ... but, we'll still have it 'till closing time @ 11pm.

In other words, social hour begins at 7, with demos and the like at 9!

What time is everyone else

djschwartz's picture

What time is everyone else gonna show up? I plan on being there but might be a little bit late. So I was just wondering if others are going to show up before "demos and the like" at 9 or if everyone plans on being there at 7?

hoping to be there by 8:30 or

Success!

emjayess's picture

I think we did alright, for the area's first Drupal meetup (that I know of)... thanks to everyone who came out: Cory (javecantrell), Jay, Dan (dj.schwartz), and Dustin (ruedu).

After getting squared away in the meeting room, I did a little demo of one of my pet projects (YaSQL.com - shameless plug); the front-end, some admin stuff, and also a bit about how I like to configure things on the server for easy core updates and multi-site (D6 docs, D7 INSTALL.txt) setups.

Cory gave us a nice walk-through of Komode IDE which, I'm not sure, but of the dozen or so he has installed, I think might possibly maybe be his current favorite IDE, maybe.

There were also plenty of tangents and random geek talk in general, all good. I'll be sure to track down a good projector for the next meeting!

Thanks guys, I enjoyed the

djschwartz's picture

Thanks guys, I enjoyed the discussion last night. After the meeting I got Komodo installed on Ubuntu and hooked up the Drupal API catalog, that works pretty slick! Drush and Chaos tools were mentioned and then we never got further into them. I'd maybe like to see how you guys use those tools at a future meeting.

I hope we can start getting more people involved, and hopefully I'll have some real stuff to show at a future meeting.
