Wiredrive and mRSS

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I have a potential project on the horizon which would be built around Wiredrive (http://www.wiredrive.com) an online media library for film, tv and video production. The service provides mRSS feeds of videos for external consumption into websites.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience working either with Wiredrive or mRSS? I assume hooking an mRSS feed up to something like flowplayer should be pretty straight forward.

I've not done much with feed_api in the past but would like to use feeds and d7 and am wondering if that is the best way to go. A test install of feeds-7.x-2.0-alpha3 seems to be pretty good upon initial inspection, but I don't have direct access to any test feeds yet :-/

Resources for Wiredrive mRSS integration

Hi ghazlewood,

We have posted quite a bit of information about how to integrate Wiredrive mRSS feeds into a website:

http://www.wiredrive.com/customercare/guide-to-wiredrive-media-rss/

We are also releasing a WordPress plugin for use with Wiredrive mRSS. It's basically an mRSS embedded video player. As of today, WordPress is still reviewing the plugin, but you can see it in action at the following link:

http://www.wiredrive.com/customercare/getting-started/getting-started-pr...

If you can stylize your own WordPress theme, you can build a website on Wiredrive and WordPress.

We hope this helps you with your upcoming project.

Hi Wiredrive! Thanks for

Hi Wiredrive! Thanks for responding. Although it's great that you guys have a Wordpress plugin I was really after a Drupal solution, hence my post here. I've read the fine documentation on your site and am comfortable with the consumption of the RSS, it's really the finer Drupal points I was looking for discussion on.

Resources?

Just stumbling into this conversation now. I’m also in early stages of research. Wonder if you’re able to share any of your earlier findings, ghazlewood?

Specifically wondering about best routes for parsing into Drupal modules. Get anywhere with Feeds?

Yes I did, Feeds is a superb

Yes I did, Feeds is a superb way to pull content in from Wiredrive very easily but beware that the Wiredrive caching/security system will cause untold pain.

You'll find that you'll need to essentially disable all and any caching on the Drupal side of things and even then files will probably have expired on Wiredrive. Unfortunately the only thing that changes in the mRSS feed is the URL (with a changing security token) so it makes it pretty hard to know when to update the feed.

Let me know if you need any more details.

mRSS in sequence?

faunt's picture

Hi again, ghazlewood.

Chiming in again as I’ve moved fwd into development, but running into a few roadblocks.

Had success connecting to mRSS through Feeds, pulling out custom media variables. Challenge with this has been twofold:

  1. can’t find a way to sync sequence of Feed items with sequence of mRSS output
  2. dead media links — presumably, the caching issue you mentioned

Wonder whether you encountered either of these issues and can suggest ways of resolving?

As a workaround, have been trying to customize the core Aggregator module to draw from mRSS without creating new nodes for each feed and feed item. Documented my challenges with that approach in the forum. Maybe someone can chime in there with any thoughts to that end?

Any guidance from the community appreciated. Thanks in advance.
